Vigilantes - Movie Trailer

Hey guys... Here's the trailer for our feature film that's almost complete... I got a DVX about a year ago and decided to learn how to use it working on a script that I had written a while back... Honestly, not one person on this project knew what they were doing, or getting themselves into (including myself) when we first started out... Everything (shooting, lighting, editing, titling, etc...)was learned right here from your work, comments, and book recommendations... Thanks you DVXers... I still don't have a grip on cc, but since the movie centers around street kids, I wanted a more defused, muted, look (if that makes sense)... I hope you enjoy...

Here's the link to the trailer:

Official website will be coming soon.

p.s. just a heads up... I really enjoyed learning about all aspects of the filmmaking process, but I really don't want to DP the next script I want to work on (I have two more ready to go) So if there's any DVXers in the Sacramento or surrounding area who would like to hook up to possibly shoot the next feature... Send me a PM. We will have some type of budget to work with.

Thanks again DVXers... You guys are great

Smithhouse,
Congratulations, you have captured the "look" I was asking about in my post in the film discussions section. What settings did yuou use for the aircraft boneyard?
What else (if anything) was involved?
Looks good.

looks pretty cool. the strongest point to me looks like your characters- they seem well built- especially the guy at the end that says "he is." lighting might need some work- but i'm excited to see this one

Thanks guys... It feels really good to be wrapping this up... learned alot on this baby, and can't wait to start the next one...

I'm simply using the scene file F5 settings -- Detail level -4 Chroma level -3 - A Iris Level -2 Gamma-Cinelike_V Matris Cinelike - V Detail Thick - 24P

I don't really know what this stuff means to be honest, and they could very well be the default settings for F5 - once I was done playing with buttons when I first got the dvx I started working on the film and have never done anything else with it since...

I agree with you Zach... I've come along way from when I first started, and lighting has been one of my biggest challenges...

Wanted to say nice effort. Don't know how good it will end up being, but the trailer does make me at least want to give it a look. It's so hard to make a good movie. Having said that, "congratulations."

Hey there!

Is there a place where I can download this trailer? I can't watch it on my mac.
Do you happen to have a .mov file?

araujofh - still working on how to compress and upload stuff... Learning everything as I go... hopefully I'll get something you can see, soon. thanks for the interest...

tktk - you're right. making a film, short, music video, etc... is very difficult... but in spite of my "learning everything as I went along technique", I believe people will be pleasantly surprised... I've got some really talented people acting in this project and I'm not ashamed to say that some of their preformances definetely overshadow the cinematography.

Pretty impressive trailer. The only thing that didn't work for me was the opening VO in the beginning over the black. But, the trailer was nicely put together, especially the final moments, great tension. Looks fantastic too. Keep it up!

PS- How did you achieve that "green" shot. CC??

Thanks for the compliments guys... I'm always looking for ways to improve so I appreciate your suggestions as well...

Filmjunkie - You think it would make a difference if I showed the guy saying those opening lines?... That green shot was actually filmed in the West Sac Police Department crime lab (way cool) , but all I did was white balance off of another color (can't remember which one though)... Glad you liked the trailer overall though.

If you check out the trailer can you let me know if there is a problem with the darkness... I work off of two monitors and one is darker than the other... don't know how to know which one is accurate(really new to all this)... Thanks for the help guys.

Does anyone know how I can calibrate the monitors or whatever to make sure what i'm seeing is accurate?

SmithHouse

Kevin... I have two computer monitors, and a production monitor that I pull out when we shoot... If you got a chance to check out the trailer, did it look dark to you?
