Wondering if I were to acquire a monitor with underscan, would it display my 16x9 image without distortion? (similiar to how a dvd player deals with anamorphic) Or would I have to have a monitor with a 16.9 switch built in as well as underscan?
MattC is, as usual, correct. A monitor with underscan would show a smaller 4:3 image. It would not convert it to 16:9, it would show the full image in a smaller 4:3 window within the larger 4:3 window.
Just as I suspected.....yet another piece of gear. Maybe I should have waited on the anamorphic for the HVX200......Any suggestions on a moderatly priced field monitor that will do 16x9 (moderate meaning under 700.)
thanks ya'll
JVC (i hear you all gasp) makes a 9" monitor that works preaty good. (moddle TM-910SU
It's got the full set of pro adjustments (underscan, 16:9/4:3, pulse-cross, blue only, B&W..) as well as knobs to calibrate birght, contrast, etc..
inputs: 2 sets of looping composite (BNC) and a set of looping S-video.
Does both NTSC and PAL, and runs on 110-240v AC or 12v DC.
on the cons side, it's only 300 lines, and 9" is a little on the small side, but it works good. We use them both in the control room as monitors and in the field. www.bhphotovideo.com lists it at $620

Incidently Panasonic and Igecami both have the EXACT same monitor (With their logo on it) in their product lines, at theire respective prices. - it's not a sony, and it's not very big, but JVC makes good picture tubes. (belive it or not)
