Hello to all. I have the DVX 100 AE Pal. I have curiosity to know if it is better to work with the viewfinder in black and white or in color.
why viewfinders B&N is usually used in professional camcorders?

thank you

Re: viewfinder

I am a tv camera operator and our viewfinders are black and white. Working black and white helps judge exposure better in the viewfinder and also helps focussing, especially with the "peaking" function on. My dvx (102 AE PAL) also has a peaking function which is very useful. More importantly though, shooting through a Black and white viewfinder tires the eyes less, so you can shoot for longer without straining the eye.

Re: viewfinder

Thank you David.

Which are the best settings (brightness, contrast) for a B&W viewfinder? contrast to maximum and brightness to middle..?
how can measure it?

thanks

Re: viewfinder

well the best way to calibrate the viewfinder is to connect your camera to a calibrated precision monitor, and then try to match the brightness and contrast settings to that image. The importance of setting your viewfinder correctly is vital for manual exposure.

Re: viewfinder

well... I don´t have a precision monitor in this moment (I will buy the next year... I hope)

Another way for calibrate the viewfinder? could be valid a Loewe Aconda 32" tv? ::)

thank you very much.

Re: viewfinder

Follow Walter Graff's instructions for setting up a professional monitor. Turn on the DVX's color bars and follow Walter's posting. If you have a 100A it'll be a little easier, because the 100A allows separate adjustment of EVF and LCD. But you won't be able to perfectly calibrate it... but you could come closer than it currently is.

Re: viewfinder

Also. realize that there is a major difference between a B&W 'CRT' viewfinder and a B&W 'LCD' viewfinder.
