FS7: Viewfinder solution?

Hello all, I recently upgraded to a FS7. Overall I am pretty happy with it, but I can't help but wonder if Sony let the interns design the viewfinder. Looking through past posts I see I am not the only one who is not crazy about it. I suppose eventually I will get a a better one like Alphatron, I rented one now and then for my F3. But I do not do much run and gun or hand held work, so I keep putting it off.

here is my workaround for the mean time, because the dang thing keeps falling off. A big rubber band and a cable tie. I suppose it would look a little better if I used all black... I am using my skills from CIT - the Coathanger Institute of Technology

Mine has never fallen off or even threatened to , either yours is defective or you haven't tightened the clips all the way . Have never seen any other post about this problem .

i haven't had any issues with it either...it could be a better, larger screen and i am hoping for some FW upgrades but i have no real issues with the loupe and it has never fallen off...

Mine did fall off on me once. I put velcro tie straps which prevent the clips of the EVF from opening accidentally. Solves the problem and allows you to still flip out the hood.

That seems odd, Never had mine come off, I would have a look and compare yours to another unit to see if it is faulty

I joining in with the rest. I've never had mine fall off or even slip. How can it with the pressure clips?

you sure you have the finder clipped top and bottom?

It certainly looks upside down to me. It appears to have the release for the eyepiece to flip up on the top. Plus, when the eyepiece flips up, the top is slightly further out than the bottom for flare purposes. If you look at the picture, the side of the eyepiece looks upside down (where the part lines are). See manual below.

If you understood basic mechanics of this particular design then you'd know that whether it is upside down or not has nothing to do with whether it stays on tightly or not. The problem OP has is likely due to the fact that the tension clips are not made to high tolerances and on some units simply don't lock tightly enough, or that over time the materials wear out. My EVF has the same problem but EVF on the unit a production company I work for has does not. End of story. Same was with the adjustable grip mechanism and EVF rails - in some units it was nice and tight and in some it wasn't.

Even when the EVF clips are correct and lock slightly tighter, it only takes a relatively gentle accidental bump to the little plastic lever locks on top or bottom of the hood for it to spring open. It is a very flimsy design, luckily solutions are very simple.

I understand basic mechanics just fine broughtonfilm. You don't know me or what I do or don't understand. Just stating what several other people also said, which it is upside down. Maybe you should get on those people to for trying to help.

I solved the whole viewfinder problem with a zacuto gratical VF with an axis mini arm. Spent 3+k and its worth every penny.
The end.
