Hi friends.
The only reason for me to change the great DVX100 to DVX100A might be the viewfinder.
We all have a great camera with a very basic low res. viewfinder.
Is anybody out there that had the 100 and now have the 100A can please share if the new viewfinder is much better, sharper ext. (i was reading about the new functions but i am interested in the actual experience working with it.)

Thanks.
Johnnie

As I understand, it's the same viewfinder, the only real changes are that they added a tougher, harder-to-scratch surface over it, and added a peaking circuit to it for aiding in focus. I don't think there were any other changes... were there?

Re: Viewfinder of DVX100 vs. 100A

Hey Johnnie,

I just got the A in last night. The vf is the same, but I only have seen the 100 once thought. b/w is pretty much worthless "It's still low res." Although the peaking circuit is very nice, that is the only reason I waited for the A to come out.

Hi,
I looked everywher but can find a way to adjust the peaking on the "A". Is there a menu setting/switch for peaking?
Thanks,

* peaking circuit ? what is that??

* johnnie, one can turn chroma off in the viewfinder and make it b&w

Re: Viewfinder of DVX100 vs. 100A

Thanks Brian!

Wish Panasonic where kind enough to release a firmware update so we (100's users) could benefit from this feature.
(I can continue dreaming...)

This EVF just kills me.I work mostly progressive and the peaking could help a lot when focusing.

Shai,
"one can turn chroma off in the viewfinder and make it b&w"
In our DVX 100?.
In my camera the viewfinder has control only over the brightness.no control over chroma or contrast.

Thanks
Johnnie

oh... happy trigger on the "post" strikes again....
johnnie, no.. the chroma-off is on the DVX100A

Re: Viewfinder of DVX100 vs. 100A

brian, to turn on peaking hit the evf butten on top of the scene file dial. it wil show up in the view finder and the lcd.

opherba, now prob. ive been waiting for this feature for a while on a prosumer camera. i got to use to a dvc-pro shooting news.

shai, i don't know how it does it but it makes a white outline on anything with a sharp edge when it is in focus. sort of like a very thin white glow. if that makes any sense
