Viewfinder info burned on Firestore drive

I am a new owner of the HVX 200. Recently I was shooting 24P in DV cam mode and recording to a Firestore drive. When I transfered the footage to final cut pro I was horrified to learn that all of the viewfinder information had bee burned on to the final footage as well, rendering the outside 30 to 40 percent of the image area useless. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Panaconic yesterday but they couldn't figure out went went wrong. Has anyone else had this problem who can help?

Nothing went wrong, that's what happens. If you have the video out OSD display turned on, it goes out the firewire port. I think it only happens in DV and not in high-def, but it happens.

I'm not sure why Panasonic couldn't figure this out -- there is a big, bold warning on page 46 of the manual explaining under which circumstances the OSD information is output through the IEEE 1394 port, and how to avoid that.

This just happened to a friend of mine. (His viewfinder info is on his footage.) Is there anyway to remove the information from the image?

Actually, it's the other way around.

I posted an "urgent timecode help needed" thread awhile back, and no one could figure it out. I was trying to send out timecode in DV mode, and it wouldn't work. Everything would show up on the external, but the second I hit "record", it would disappear. Mikko tried to help me out, along with a couple other people, but we all got the same results.

Anyway... I just spent a few minutes searching for my original thread, and it's gone?? I have no idea why it would have gotten deleted, but it did. I bumped it a couple weeks ago because, even after my shoot, I still was looking for an explanation... but alas, I can't find it now.

Ohhhh that sucks! Sorry to here that Don. That's almost gun-in-the-mouth stuff.

On analog outputs, yes. But I think in DV mode the firewire output gets that information burned in. And that would affect the firestore, as we see in this thread.
