Hows it going, anyone have experience with Vienna Symphonic Library or EWQL Symphonic Libraries?

Check out those 2 links, I am trying to go for quality as opposed to price here, not sure if Vienna is "better", more realistic sounding recordings that EWQL, Iam looking to invest in a good quality library, for upcoming features I will be composing, which one may result in better sounds out of those 2 companies? I never tried either, really even if I get the demo I would not be able to tell the difference, only a trained classical musician may, so any opinions on the 2?

Thanks!

+1 for Vienna

To my ears, EWQL sounds just a little harsher and brittle than Vienna libraries. I remember 4-5 years ago, the Platinum library from EastWest used to cost $3k.

What else do you own?

Thats cool.

Thats cool.

No I don't own either, but I do plan on using one for feature films, and I don't want the score to sound amateur, I know there are plenty other companies out there which sound slightly better than soundtrack pro's loops, and found that EW and Vienna are the best out there. Ill take your word for it about the library loops in Vienna sounding better, I assume the price is worth the difference, but perhaps others have different opinions.

Do you know if Cubase SX 3 can export the music sheets out of the program after the score is composed like in Motu Digital Performer?

You know I've been researchinhg a good strings sample library for awhile and ran into the Garritan Strings library. Go to the website and listen to the demo's from "real world" users. It's truly impressive and only costs 200 dollars. The only thing that is missing is a good choir library. I think the east west choir would be the perfect compliment for the Garritan stuff. Good luck

I have used the Garritan library for about 4 years and the strings are amazing. As far as Vienna and EWQL its Vienna hands down. EWQL is ok but I pull better symphonic tones direct from my Motif ES8 so it was a bit of a waste.

Thanks guys, I just had to hear it from one guy to convince me, perhaps it is so pricey for a reason correct? Also do the VSL libraries have more gigs of samples for the money?

Anyone try the EWQL XP Pro expansion for Platinum yet? Just wondering if they made any improvements on their samples. I am ordering their Symphonic Choirs so I might go ahead and bundle it together if their samples sound better on the expansion.

I use the VSL Symphonic Cube, and it is great. I spent the majority of my life sitting in an orchestra as a horn player and to me, the VSL sounds slightly better. No regrets.

The thing to understand with each are different in their own way. I personally think that the EWQL series has a little more of that "big hollywood sound" of action movie scores and such but the VSL sounds more classical and traditional and true to its instruments. It doesnt hurt to have a good variety of both but VSL will always have my vote of the more realistic samples.
