Vienna forest short films (widescreen) - first part

I've started a series of short films to showcase the beauty of the Vienna forest, south and west of Vienna.

The first part is now online:

let me now how you like it. It is a nice learning experience for me to shoot widescreen - the image composition is quite different but fascinating.

Shot in 1080p24, smooth film mode (all settings -2), manual movie mode, ND 8 filter.

The GH1 does exceptionally well in shooting against the sun - no smear, ..., great!

Find enclosed a screenshot of one of the scenes.

best regards

Wow some nice shots in there.

Magic hour light is working well too. What time of day was that? Dusk or dawn?

Thank you commanderspike. It was at dusk. What I did to get a more "golden look" is to set the manual WB to 10000K. This manual WB setting is a great feature to get the desired look already in camera. The LCD is pretty accurate (in terms of colors) too.

best regards

Really liked these shots. I hope you didn't damage your eyesight by staring at the great sunlight too long.

Well, my eyes are fine but I hope I didn't damage the camera by pointing it into the sun like that. I used an ND8 filter so it shoudn't be too bad.

It's interesting to compare Gunther's excellent work with the following footage Bruce Dorn shot with a Canon 5DM2 using a 600mm lens:

Bruce discusses it here:

A very good link to have a look at - I was surprised that he got his shots so steady, given the fact that there was a lot of motion, panning, etc... in that sense its also hard to compare because my shots a very static ...

But thats what I like so much about this forum - there's always something you discover which makes you go out and improve your skills!
