Videoing computer screens

Hi all,
I have tried to video scenes which include a computer screen, but have been unable to eliminate the strobing effect from the screen. I've tried making changes to Progressive and Interlaced, shutter speeds and iris, but have not succeeded.

My camera is PAL (I am in Scotland) and the computer refresh rate is 80kHz.

Can anyone give me the secret of doing this action for both Computer and PAL TV.

Many thanks

Go into the Syncro Scan setting and tweek that. You should be able to get rid of the strobing with that setting.

Thanks for the response. However, although tweeking the Syncro Scan seems to vary the speed of strobing on the computer monitor, it doesn't vary it by much, and it is still very evident. I tried it both in Interlaced and Progressive mode (using the Scene Setting F5.

Setting the shutter speed to 1/80th should stop it dead.

But you might be a lot better off changing the refresh on the monitor to a lower value first and syncing to that.

The monitor in front of me now will go down to 47Hz, so setting the shutter to 1/47th stops the strobe and isn't so far off the normal shuuter speed that I have to worry about getting more light into the scene...which the higher shutter speeds would require. (or opening the iris, of course)

Hi both,
Problem solved. Thanks to you both for that. I altered the refresh frequency of the screen and tweaked the Syncro scan, the combination of a refresh rate of 70 Hertz and Syncro Scan 1/69.4 did the trick. I wouldn't want to try it on an office full of screens, though. Reckon I'd get kicked out if I did.

Seriously, thanks again for your help.
