Video Village

So this may be a total noob question but if I run an F35 with a 7q+ dual SDI will I have a bnc port to run Video Village? This is an f35 with an IF Box.

I am renting an f35 and am trying to solve all the possible problems, so would rather sound stupid than be wrong.

Thanks in advance!

You should send the monitor out signal to video village. And you have two of those. And they have MLUTs, if you wish, which is very convenient. So all good!

Oh DUH. Haha, totally forgot about the monitor having ports. Thanks so much Mac, hey one more question. How are you powering your 7Q? Trying to figure out a good solution, the battery mount I have has a dtap but I heard I need that for the IF Box?

The if box does not use d tap. You need a battery plate with d tap output, or you can get cable made to use the 12v output on side of the camera.

Sorry maybe I worded that wrong. I meant I have to use the battery plate dtap to power the IF box with a 4pin XLR correct? So I don't have a way to power my 7q besides it's own battery source, or is there a way?

I believe Mac is referring to the "Monitor OUT" SDI ports on camera - which can carry MLUTs on them. There's 2! As the F35 is probably very used to being set up to go to multiple video villages/outputs, etc.

Ah I see, thanks for taking the time to correct me. I realize I'm so new to this camera and honestly to the big boy cinema world. Shooting my first "semi big" indie short this April. Had to go F35!

Excited to share it with you guys.

I just ordered a bunch of these so i can have multiple D-taps. http://www.ebay.com/itm/D-Tap-Male-...324664?hash=item280dbf2d78:g:ERYAAOSwHQ9WbmIw

I would suggest using a plate with a dedicated 4 pin output instead of using a dtap to 4 pin into the IF box. The best way to power the F35 is 24v battery block, 2nd best is 12v plate which goes directly into the lemo port.

Your way is ok, however I have seen people plug D tap's in backwards, or they are loose and slip out during critical filming. It is just not a great idea to have entire F35 powered from D tap cable.

You always have the SDI output of the 7Q to loop to video village also.

I would definitely not run an F35 from a D-tap. It's not meant to take that sort of load.

I use the Hawk-Woods 24v System on my F65, it would work just as well on the 35. It means you can power accessories from the cameras own accessory ports, both 12 and 24v.

What are some good v-mount plate options to mount on the interface box, and where in Canada can you buy that lemo if one decides they want to power the camera directly via lemo?

cheers,

Hey,

When I rented an F35 from Clairmont Camera, they were nice enough to custom make a battery plate on the back of the IF box. I simply explained what I had seen Sparky rig and 30 minutes we had power. They were probably happy just to be renting the F35. Clairmont Camera is a First Class operation on many different levels.

I guess there are a few advantages to being in the Los Angeles market. Ring up your rental house and see what they can do for you, after all you ARE the customer.

Hm never even thought of the Sony one.

Any part number or picture of what it looks like? Does it have d-taps?

thanks

The battery plate has a 4 pin xlr and a dtap. The xlr can power the camera through the IF box if it is connected to the back of the camera or you can use the xlr to lemo cable and power the camera directly and it will feed power to the IF box mounted to the top or bottom. That is the way I always do it and you will have a dtap port to power the 7q.

That totally makes sense, thanks David! I probably should have asked you but I was trying to avoid asking you so many questions haha.

BTW: Dhessel has been extremely helpful and responsive during my time renting his F35. I would highly recommend renting his F35 if you are close to the Denver area or can afford shipping it farther. He has been great!
