I have 3 HVX200s and will be establishing a studio - need to know what switcher/mixer you recommend or are using for similar environment - HD signal preferred - - firewire out from hvx's ... would be ideal - has to go into Macbook pro to hit internet so FW 800 out from switcher/mixer or can dumb dowm to FW400

With an HVX200 you have to decide if you are going to used RGB Component or Convert to HD-SDI or HDMI. Firewire is not a viable option for real production work even if you never move cameras and make sure they are never more then 15ft away from the switcher, there are no professional Firewire Switchers that are suitable for your needs.

Also I recommend keeping the input into the Mac Book separate your options depend on which model MacBook Pro you have. You have several options your budget would also play a part in any of my recommendations.

Thank you for replying! - ok well, I thought a powered FW hub in between will give me 30 feet. Will that really work? That said, what does converting to HD-SDI involve or even HDMI if the switcher takes that too - Component is an option as the HVX has the cable for that. just a lot of cables strung around.
One cam will be stationary while two will be on remote PTZ rigs or manned.

I have a 6 month old top line MBook pro - FW800 input as well as USB2 Are there cards available for other options?

Budget ... up to $10k if need be but that's the lot of it. Really appreciate your help.

I did a shoot recently with a Panasonic HS300G switcher... All HD-SDI. We had 5 HVX's. Just converted from RGB component to HD-SDI with a little AJA HD10A A/D converter. Beautiful signal. The upside to that is you can run hundreds of feet worth of cable. No use at all in using firewire, especially with the flimsy connection the HVX has. Just use a video converter from the board to the computer. Not sure on models there but they shouldn't cost more than 2-$3000...
