video recorded in ph mode shows up as 17mbps in fcp?

I recorded in 1080 30p in ph mode on a 16gb sdhc panasonic class 6 card, which should be able to uphold the bit rate just fine. But after Transcoding the footage into fcp, it says that the compression rate is at 17mbps. Is this correct. A little confused here. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

same thing, right here.

Bit Rate is announced for 21 Mps in PH Mode 1920 x 1080 & in
1280 x 720 (up to 24 Mpbs max), but i can't get more than 13 Mbps and, mostly, about 7 Mpbs in FCP...

Any idea?

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. As I understand it the camera records in a variable bitrate mode. So conceivably, a talking head interview will take up less space than an identical-length clip of a clip with more action.

That said, maybe FCP is calculating an average based on the clip length and file size. You can check for yourself by dividing the file size by the clip length, and dividing by 8 (to turn MB into Mb).

Rest assured, if you have your camera in the highest quality setting, you're getting the best possible quality from the camera. I wouldn't worry too much about what FCP says.

(btw, I don't have FCP, but I have heard people talking about this issue before. Maybe try a search.)

Argh, we've been through this before. FCP reports MB/s, not Mb/s, of the ProRes video. That's BYTES, not BITS. 17MB/s is 136 mb/s, what you'd expect from a huge ProRes file.

C'mon, don't you see that the actual files are much larger than the AVCHD data?

ullanta is right, fcp bases the reading on bytes not bits. Pay close attention to the captial "B" in FCP.
