F3: Video Out

Dumb question (I guess)

I have an analogue Tranvideo SD monitor, (off my steadicam) I was thinking of hooking it up to my F3 mainly to use the WFM or pass to a director.

Should this work with the 'Video Out' BNC connector, it does not seem to?

Yes it will work, when I owned the F3 I would often hook up an old 5.6" monitor over SD on 25 feet of composite video cable and give to the director.

You just need a BNC to female phono (RCA) adapter and if you're shooting in 23.98p mode be sure to enable the 2-3 pulldown option from the menu.

analog composite doesn't really support 24p or 25p and it can only be done through pull down with older monitors. Set the camera to 50i and see if your cable and monitor work, it might help you troubleshoot.

Ill try that. The monitor works fine with my FS100, goPro(!) and 5d2 (when I had one) - both in 25p mode - maybe they are AVout not Composite - dont really know the difference.

AV out is composite, but likely your other cameras output 50i when you set them to 25p shooting mode. On the F3 I never tested PAL but I know from 24p that a pulldown is needed to convert to 60i.

Did you check for any pull down option in the menu for 25p?

All I can see in the manual is this:

SD signals down-converted for output have the following restrictions:
Images of 50P/50i/25P are output as PAL signals, those of 59.94P/59.94i/29.97P are output as NTSC signals, and those of 23.98P are output as 2-3 pulled-down NTSC signals.

So in your case, it should already be outputting 50i from the output port. Can you test it on a TV or DVD player with AV input?

Was thinking also that perhaps your BNC to phono plug is kaput. They are somewhat spring loaded within the connector itself, and prone to failure.

Have you verified that it works or tried sticking bare wires into center post and grounding the ground lead?

Honestly I moved to trying the exposure facilities on my SmallHD (DP6) - which is in front of my face anyway.. basically it has a 50-55 band and also highlight warning.

My feeling is that skin should be put so that the 50-55 band is just illuminating on the forehead.
