Video of the Boston RULE presentation by Jan Crittenden

Very informative indeed.

I must have missed this before, but I wonder why we can't use the viewfinder, LCD and SDI out at the same time? (25:49 in Part 1).

Hmmm... Do you get to choose which one turns off? This is kinda a big deal for our operations as we for sure would need the LCD and SDI at all times.

If you have the SDI in the on position, then it is either the LCD is open and being used or LCD is closed and EVF turns on. HDMI is always on. If you have the SDI off then, both the LCD and EVF will be on at all times.

Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, that's perfect. Thanks for the info! And especially for throwing the HDMI info in there too. I was thinking of asking about that, but didn't want to ask for too much info ;)

Well I guess I have been on the "project" since the beginning, but Barry knows it as well. Perhaps I know more of the whys and he knows more of the hows. ;-)

Thanks for answering. And thanks for continuing to be so wonderful about keeping in touch with the community here.

Very informative video. Thanks for sharing.
As a side note: did anyone notice the inconsiderate talking within the front row? As a college instructor, this is one of my pet peeves.

There are four outputs -- viewfinder, HD-SDI, LCD, and HDMI. You can have three of them simultaneously, but not all four. You can choose:
1) LCD, VF, and HDMI
2) LCD, HDMI, and HD-SDI
3) VF, HDMI, and HD-SDI

Only exception is if you choose HD-SDI 24PsF; in that case it turns off the HDMI output.

Yes, but only if you've set "EVF MODE" to "ON". The default is "EVF MODE" set to "AUTO", in which case the viewfinder will turn off when you open the LCD panel. It saves a little battery power that way. Obviously I prefer to set that menu item to ON, so the EVF is always on (unless SDI output is set to ON and the LCD is open). I like to set the EVF COLOR to OFF, have the EVF MODE set to ON, and that way the LCD panel is a full-color display and the viewfinder is a high-res black and white display with red focus peaking. It makes for a great combination.

Yes, this is exactly the case. I dig in and find out what the camera does, but then I have to turn to her and say "why?!?!" and she can explain what the engineering decisions were for why certain things were done certain ways.

Thanks for continuing with the great tips Barry. I look forward to trying out some of your combinations when the AF100 arrives. The black and white with red focus peaking sound like a fantastic tool/setup.

Terrific presentation, Jan. During it, you briefly mentioned white papers for the camera, and AVC workflow perhaps, available on the Panasonic website. I've found a page the AF100 on the Panasonic website, but I have not seen links to white papers for the camera. Can you post a link to that? Thanks!

As an interim until out web group gets caught up, look for them at www.panasonic.com/AVCCAM.

Thanks,

Jan

Wow. How cool is that!
