im editing a project with 4 video layers v1=animation background v2=video portions have plasmawipes v=3 broll shots v=4 titles. through out the project there are dmn transfer effects, pip, plasmawipes. my question is when i mixdown even after selecting the highest record montior tab on the track selector, the mixdown does not put all the video into the new master sequence. i thought the mixdown would combine all the video tracks. what am i doing wrong? by the way im using axp 5.7.

:dankk2:

This may seem dumb, but do you have your top track V4 turned on and all video tracks selected before trying to mixdown?

i did what the book said turn on the highest desired track with all the other tracks selected and i even put an in and out.

Hmm, it's hard to figure out not being there in front of the machine. Have you tried posting this over at Avid?

in the avid forums? no but dam that is a good idea it seems the problem is that im not able to select more than one record tab in the video track selector section. apartently your allowed to but ive never been able to, so im thinking its my settings. when i get home from work ill look at it again.

thanx.

For what its worth MIXDOWN will not flatten images and drop them down to V1.

You are thinking of a feature called COLLAPSE, I use it daily on my PC Avid Media Composer, however, I am not sure it is a feature on AXP (cant say its been about 5 years since Ive owned one). With COLLAPSE you make sure tracks 1-4 are "on" make a mark in & out, hit COLLAPSE and wa-lah, all your video is submastered to track one (for the record you will still need to render).

Which brings up another idea....might work. In effects see if you have submaster, add the submaster effect to Track 1, step in then nest your tracks 2-4 into 1. This may or may not work depending on your transitions, but its another way you could flatten your effects.

Good luck

Skip the mixdown step and just export as QT movie, if you have time you can toy with the compression settings if you're not happy with a particular export. When you import the QT into AfterEffects, or back into Avid it will all be in the V1 line.

I've never understood the mixdown step, and I've been happy with all my QT exports so far.

My 2 cents.

MikeyP is right. Is this what you are trying to do? Mixdown will create a new MXF in your bin with a "flat" version of your sequence, but it wont replace your tracks in your sequence. If you want, just create a new sequence and dump this new MXF into it with a mixdown of your audio.
