Video in Audio in Question?

Hi All !!!,

First I know my camera is not a DVX-100, but I thought that you guys might know how to do this.

I have a question, I Have a DVC-80 (Love my Camera) and I want to record a demo from a Laptop (through the video out) but I also want to catch the room audio. I know I can get the video from the laptop (I have done it in the past) but I don’t know how to get the audio as well. Any help would be wonderful

Thanks in advance
Michael

Hey sparky, its scharky
I understand what you are trying to do, but I don't think it is possible. IF you are running an S-video and audio from your laptop, the camera needs to be in VCR mode, therefore disabling the microphone and XLR's. HOwever, if you hooked a mic up to your laptop, and set it to be enabled at all times, you could get the room noise and your audio out from your laptop all recorded at once.

thanks for the reply... and nice name :)

what about the audio dub option dose that not enable audio through the camera? I cant test it right now or i would.

thanks
Michael

I thought about the "ghetto" solution but I have done it in the past and it did not look good. Gezz you would think that this would be easy to do.

Another way to do it would be to get a microphone plugged into a mixer to record the live audio. Then pipe the line out of the mixer into the RCA input jacks of the DVX.

I don't think audio dub will work, unless you've already got the video on the tape in the first place (audio dub is for dubbing in a second stereo pair *after* it's recorded). And the onboard mic only works in camera mode.

So bring a mixer and a mic, and you can do exactly what you're asking for.

... for a "ghetto" solution, you could just point the lens at the laptop's screen, and shoot it "live"...

this is done in TV news all the time.. white balance to daylight and shoot tight on the display.

if you dont have access to a mixer and your pc has a mic on it.. just use the built in mixer in the laptop and mix the mic sound with the .wav sound and output that from the line out on the computer to your cameras line in. if there is no built in mic just plug one in...

Assuming the target system is Windows-based why use a cam? Download Camstudio from the internet and capture the demo at full res with the ability to select areas and manage the video screen. Use the normal audio controls to capture the sound to a WAV file at the same time and mix video and audio via your NLE - no cam ops at all for the demo part.
