Video grainy noise problems !

Hi all !

It's first time I use the DVX100B.
Actually my shots are very very noisy, with a lot of grain in the low lights and midtones areas. Pictures looks exactly as if the electronic gain is activated, but I am sure it's not ! And I don't use the AUTO mode either, so there isn't AGC. Even with a good lighting set, the dark areas (and even not so dark) suffers of the awful mosquito syndrom.

Important point: this problem is present directly on the tape, before any kind of acquisition.

Here is a link where you can find a selection of shots done with this camera :

Thanks for your help ! I need it ! :)

ok so i dont understand what the site is saying cuz of the language barrier but i guess its a file to download. Not really feeling the Downloading of a random file from a new member :)...no offense. However i will try to help.

Double check if gain is on.
decrease your master ped and it will give u more solid blacks.

my 100b isnt noisy when i lower the master ped.

Ok thanks for your answer. The file is only a little piece of video so it cannot be dangerous.
Anyway later I will post a link to download it from another english site.

I also tried with a decreased master pedestal and the problem still remains...
Anyway the big noise isn't only in the blacks, it's almost present in every part of the picture wich is just a bit dark... Just like a big electronic gain !

I really afraid that it could be some kind of hardware failure...

Make sure you check the scenefile you are on and haven't got the detail levels cranked all the way up. Also add some detail coring and see what happens. And as Darren said, mast ped at -10 or more helps and gamma at B Press.

I use the scenefile 1 with default presets. I checked it. Hoping that this configuration normaly offers a best result than that :

And watching the video is really worst . Because the noise fluctuates of course !

I will try to decreasing more the master ped and changing the gamma and detail coring on monday.

how does it look playing to from th camera to the tv...this will tell u if lies with the camera or software.

Ok I used this configuration today :

SCENE FILE 1 with :
DTL level = - 5
DTL coring = + 5
Master ped = - 10
Gamma = B.PRESS

It's better, but the problem is still the same with the grays or dark but not black areas.
Of course the blacks are pretty good but because they are so much decreased !
Unfortunatly, it is only a way to try to hide the default...

Maybe it's a problem with software/playback or encoding issue like shaun said. But I don't do anything special for acquisition.
I use the classic firewire interface of my MacBook Pro with FCP 6.0 in DV PAL normal preset.
And the problem is also visible on the LCD screen during the recordings so I don't think that it's this kind of problem.
