Video fundamentals training video?

I'm new to video in even the most basic of ways. I did something ill advisable to most people and bought an expensive piece of equipment with no knowledge on how to use it (hpx 170). I have my reasons for leaping head first so please don't dwell on that. I just picked it up yesterday and i find myself uncharacteristically out of my element.

I have been reading this forum (and others) for the past couple months and the info here has been outstanding on a number of things. So now I will ask for some help. I'm looking for good training video for the greenest of the green in terms of videography. Preferably something that will demonstrate differences in the things it teaches. It doesn't have to be hvx/hpx specific but if it is then great. I will settle for fundamentals for now! It can't be basic enough :p Thanks in advance :)

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum.
You'll find a tremendous wealth of information and very accomodating members.

I would suggest you pickup Barry Green's book "The HVX and HPX Book".
Also, Barry has available the HVX Bootcamp Volumes I and II. Though these are
for the HVX, mostly everything in the DVD's can be applied to the HPX-170.

I refer to these three items constantly. In addition, Barry and David Jimerson
have a instuctional DVD for acquiring good audio for your production called "Sound
for Film and Television".

These are just a few to get you started for good camera opps. Good luck.

you can search training videos on the internet which is how i learned handling my camera.

All of the suggestions above are great, however they are geared toward learning the functions of your type of camera. If you need basic instruction on the art of videography and production, I would suggest you google those topics and you will find a ton of information. There are some pretty basic videography 101 magazines you can subscribe to also, such as Videomaker that may prove helpful. They also offer workshop DVD's in basic videography techniques. Good luck!
