VIDEO - F35 with Odyssey 7Q Rig Walkthrough and Demo...

I will shoot some more on the unit today for some extra info here and there on the 7Q. I will go deeper into the operation of the unit some more too, and see where we go from there!

I need to clarify one thing said a few comments back. The monitor out and the interface box output the exact same signal in terms of quality and resolution when the camera is set to 422. At 444, the interface is required for the dual connections and the monitor out keeps the 422 signal. I don't believe the problem with the footage Macgregor saw could be that the unit was connected to the monitor out considering he has shot a lot of footage on the hyper deck using this port and knows how good the footage can look.

That being said, the ports are not the same at the moment, as the feed from the IF box is outputting a 12Bit 444 signal that the 7Q is absorbing as a 10Bit for now. If we could select a 422 signal out the back of the IF box that matches the 422 from the monitor ports, then we would have a direct comparison - but at the monent, and unit the 7Q can record different compressions from the menu, then we are comparing different feeds.

How the 7Q receives and interprets the different signals in terms of how it displays on the screen i do not know. My perspective comes from us not seeing any issues with the image on the screen using the IF box, so if there are any issues with the image and the feed is coming from the Monitor out side, then that is my starting point for my thinking on this...

Otherwise.... no idea!

Hi,
I wasn't talking about captured footage, only about the monitor image, which is what I was interested on. And the image on the Odessey wasnt not good, that was the problem I experienced.

For sure, ane i understand that. Again, i have had no issues with my image on the screen, and the only difference that comes to mind is where the output is coming from....

Here is some more video content for everyone. I shot different formats of footage, moving between 444, 422, sLog, Hypergamma and so on.... I also did a quick grade of some sLog 444 footage in Resolve for the intro, sLog clips first and then the grade straight after of the same clips

And here is something of a part 2 to the first video i made on the 7Q. I am sure there will be a few more parts as time goes on to these :)

My understanding has always been that the Sony F35 is limited to acquisition of 50 frames per second from the sensor, but it able to output over a 60p stream. Meaning, at 60p 10 frames per second are junk. I would advise shooting 50p setting on the F35, not 60p.

Its the battery plate from switchtronix, originally for the F3, but i modified it so it would work on the back of the F35. Gives you 2 P-taps...

I thought BnH sent me the wrong one at first, but after modifying it a bit, i realized that i was gaining 2 outlets for additional powering of hardware...

Amazing the life these things have.

I asked Switronix to make this while I was at AbelCine. We needed a neatly packaged way to power the F3 and accessories, with a short XLR4 cable. When I saw that their plates had two possible spots for P-Taps (depending on the shape of the rig it was to be used on, I was told), I asked if both spots could be filled with P-Taps. They made it to my requested spec and the product lives on and on and on.
