Video Devices PIX-E5 Monitor/Recorder Problem

We’ve been having intermittent problems recording 10bit Pro Res HQ files to our PIX-E5 form our DVX200 Camera…………once and a while and for no apparent reason the PIX-E5 does not see the Attached Speed Drive.

If you stop what you’re doing, un-plug and re-plug the Speed Drive into PIX-E5 it may or may not start working again. Were using a total of 3 Speed Drives and it’s happened with more than one of them.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I’ve been in touch with the Technical people at Video Devices and up-graded my PIX-E5 Firmware to version 3.50 they have indicated that this should solve the problem described in my earlier post . If anyone is still experiencing this problem, after up-grading the PIX-E5 firmware to version 3.50 you should report it to Video Devices.

Apparently the 3.50 firmware up grade has not solved the problem mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I had the exact same thing happen yesterday, fortunately I was only making a test (Once again my PIX-E5 would not see a properly plugged in Speed Drive) I was able to get it working again by calling Video Devices and cold booting the PIX-E5.

On previous occasions turning the PIX-E5 on and off or plugging and unplugging the Speed Drive seemed to solve the problem, however problems like this are not acceptable..………Let me know if you’re having similar problems and what if anything Video Devices is doing to help you solve it.

I’ve had the problem on and off since purchasing my PIX-E5 and although their people are sympathetic I worry that it’s an engineering problem they have not been able to resolve.

Anyway, and to move ahead, I requested a RA yesterday and will send my PIX-E5 to Video Devices for repairs or replacement.
