Video Card responsible for image quality?

Sorry for the Noobish questions...I'm sure this will go in the "DUH" category.

I'm editing on a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8GHz with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card. Where does this card rate from 1-10? Will installing a better one give me smoother graphics and better image quality?

FCP uses the GPU extensively when rendering FXPlug related filters, etc.

Actually that 2600 is pretty good. The ATI Mac/PC 3780 is much better at accelerating rendering, but your monitor is more a factor on how things look.

The 3780 is just now becoming available at Mac retailers. About $220.00

Thanks David. I have wondered about this Acer monitor and it's capability with the demands of FCP. It got stellar ratings at Newegg, but it was mostly for gamers. I was after the reliability factor and size to cost ratio. I've been looking at Dell and Samsung monitors to upgrade to and have this as a secondary monitor for browsing, etc.

A faster card will help improve real time speed and rendering in apps like Motion or Color, but it won't improve the image quality. Image quality is dependent on the quality of your source materials.

The image on the screen looks pixelized, in my opinion. I have basically the same Mac Pro system I edited on at a TV station, but they had 3.0ghz x2, 4GB ram, and an NVIDIA GT Force 7300 graphics card on Samsung monitors. That's why I asked about the graphics card. I'm using a DVX at home, the station had a XL2. Maybe it is the monitor, I don't know...
