Video Card Overlay Adjustment Problems?

I am having a problem with captured video appearing dark when editing in Vegas 5 or any editing software.  I know that what I am shooting with my DVX is exposed properly and is calibrated.  My monitor is also properly calibrated with a spyder.  ATI tells me that none of their cards give you the ability to adjust the video overlay gamma, brighness or contrast for video that appears on your system, only on their multimedia player.  Vegas 5 does not appear to provide the ability to make calibration adjustments to the video in the display window other than in post.  Does anyone know of a solution to adjusting the overlay so that it is calibrated?  Perhaps an alternated video card or editing software for PC that will allow for overlay adjustment?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!  :-/

Your video card has no effect on Vegas 5, other than that V5 can take advantage of a dual-monitor setup.
