Video and Sound are ALWAYS Unsynced!

I have the DVX-100a and use FCP HD 4.5

I have had this problem off and on for a long time. At first I thought that my tapes had just been in the sun too long or that I was trying to edit 24pa footage on the wrong editing track (DV NTSC 48 khz). I'm not sure what the problem is?? is it my camera? Tapes? Editing system/setup/preferences????

Depending on what NLE you are using, you may have the slip synch checked. Its supposed to move the audio ahead or back for the original DVX to synch up because it had some lag. I dont use FCP so i dont know if it has that feature.

Need more information but it could be the way you are monitoring your material. For example, if you're viewing picture that is being firewired out to another device like a camcorder but the audio is direct from your NLE speakers, they'll be out of sync. It will be constantly out of sync though, not on and off.

What I mean by on and off is: Some projects it does this, and some other projects it doesnt. BTW, what is NLE? my comp speakers? I have a Puerto Rican DVX, (Some how EVS got in an odd shipment during Peak Sales Last Summer), do you think that it doesnt have the upgrades that the US Versions have?

they told me it was the same as a US one, but the serial number is just a sticker instead of like a metal thing. I dont know if their is a difference.

First, EVS was never sent a Puerto Rican Shipment. They made a false assumption and then told that as truth. Not true.

The delay on the audio is only evident in the progressive modes and you need to slip your audio in the time line of the non linear system. The reason this happens is that the audio goes directly through the camera to recording while the video is delayed in capture and then to recording. If you were working in 60i, you would never notice it.

If you are working in FCP, I think they actually have a plug-in that will do this automatically.

Good Luck,

Jan
