My first attempt at sort of a "moody" vibe, shot at a local park. Im still new to filming and editing, and this was practice to get some creative juices flowing and also to improve my grading skills. Any feedback is appreciated.
Nicely done! You've got a good eye for composition. You've definitely achieved a certain mood especially with that music.
Loved the shot with the water reflecting the sky, looked very painterly.
The only thing that bothered me were the unsteady tilts, they took me out of the moment and drew attention to the camera.
On your first tilt down from the trees, when you reach the benches there is quick double image, did you do that intentionally?
Wasn't sure about that.
Grade has an ominous feel, looks good.
Thank you for the kind words. Its great to know that I'm on the right track! Those unsteady tilts are killing me, too. I don't have a video tripod, and actually only have a very old photography style metal tripod that is not the smoothest. I think once I get a nice tripod made for video, the tilts/pans will smooth out.
On the first shot with the tilt down to the bench, I actually tilted way too far down and the composition looked horrible. Luckily I had taken a shot of the same scene right after I did the tilt shot, and had the (more pleasing) composition you see after the double image. So I just faded the tilt shot into the stationary shot, and thats why you see the double image. I had hoped it would look intentional and add to the mood, and not seem like a coverup for a mistake.
I am absolutely amazed at how much I could pull out of the sky shot with the lamp post. In the original shot, the sky was nearly a complete wash of light grey with almost no detail at all. But after some 3way correction and contrast, I got that great sky with no banding. Mind blowing after coming from a 60D.
