Vhs - rip

VHS is finally being put out to pasture. I haven't played a VHS tape in several years, so I am not the least bit heartbroken. I am old enough to remember a time before VHS, when the only way to see movies was in a theater or on broadcast television. Movies played in theaters seemingly forever. Some like Star Wars had birthdays! I remember when we first got a VCR, somewhere around 1984. I think the first movie I rented was either Star Wars or Blade Runner. The one that got the most play though was Raiders of the Lost Ark. I played that until it was snow. Good times.

In recent years I've only used VHS to tape shows on TV, but my Tivo has replaced it in that sense.

So good riddance!

i watch an occasional VHS because there are still way too many great movies that aren't available on DVD. My most recent purchase was the TV version of Marty with Rod Steiger. (its great but not as good as the movie)

A man in my office gave me a miniDV tape he shot in Thailand a few weeks ago, and he asked me if I could transfer it over to a VHS to show his wife. I said, "No."
"Ok. I guess a DVD would be ok, then."
I think he wanted the VHS rather than the DVD ... I'm still not sure.

I also don't do much with VHS, but I still keep my JVC SVHS machine for those odd occasions. Like my Wife's Nursing Graduation. I transferred it over to DVD for her. And a musician who had an old tape of a music video they did. Old stuff seems to come back to haunt you when you least expect it.

LOL, my mom uses VHS everyday.

My mom too. She's far to old to teach her anything new and she's totally happy with the old VHS format. Heck I gave her my 3 year old big screen tv last year for her rec room but she still favors a 25 year old RCA console that's missing most of the green. She thinks Ireland is brown.......

I remember having to rent top loading vhs players along with the movies, Firestarter was my first R rated tape, I can't remember the first film though, I remember my first razer blade edit I got the angles wrong lol. don't own a vcr now, I left my last on on my houseboat when i sold it a few years ago.
