VG-30 LANC connection?

Need some help... Anyone have a VG-30 camera and have a LANC remote connected?

Here's the story. Last semester I needed to rush a list of gear together for one of our students. He has some physical disabilities that prevent him from using our regular cameras. Took way too many months with the different organizations to get their acts together and buy him my rough suggestions. We ended up with VG-30 with kit power zoom lens, Benro Aero 4 tripod, Sony shotgun/XLR audio handle, and the RM-1BP remote. I read a bunch of stuff online that suggested LANC wouldn't be an issue, but there is no 2.5mm jack, and no adapter cable to connect a LANC device. I stumbled onto this site that has the mini 10 pin D connectors to LANC jack that I really hope provides the solution because everything else is going to work great for him, but none of it will really work without the remote zoom/focus/record start.

Anyone able to help? Just looking for known working solutions to buy, not looking for handouts. Yes I did send them an email, but backing up my efforts to make sure I find a solution of some kind.

Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg_E,

This is the only thing that I have found that works. I have tested this on my a7s, a7s ii, rx100 m3, and a6000. It allows me to use my FS700 hand grip (lanc connection) to those nex cameras. I was able to get record start stop, take picture, and zoom to work with the FS700 handgrip on the nex cameras. a couple buttons on the handgrip that did not have the same buttons on the camera did not work. I do not have a vg30 or RM-1BP remote to test, but it looks like the VG30 has the same multi-terminal usb plug, and the FS700 hand grip is a sony lanc cable equiped remote.

It is not perfect but you should have some functionality. I did have problems on a aftermarket manfrotto remote. I also have a manfrotto 521LX lanc remote that world work, but only intermittently. It seamed like the problem was the cable not providing the Manfrotto lanc remote (with lcd screen) enough power as I would hold the button to zoom but it would then stop and the light would dim, then you would need to repress the button to start the zoom up again.

Like I said, I don't have your exact gear setup, but this was the best solution I have found getting a lanc controller to work with sony's multi terminal usb port. I hope this gets you on the right track. Your mileage may differ, I hope this works out for you. Keep us posted.
