VFR vs Time Remapping

I haven't actually tried it, but from what I've read, variable frame rate mode should be smoother and more "realistic" (for lack of a better term) than adjusting in post with a NLE. If nothing else, I can tell you for sure that it is faster to work with...

Hey Otari,
I have tried this extensively.
In fact we bought the HVX unit to replace the need for high-speed Super16mm film.
Does the overcranking mode deliver on the HVX? ABSOLUTELY.
The footage looks fantastic! Very crisp slo-mo that looks MUCH better than 480i footage that has been slo-mo'd in either FCP or AE. The reason is that is is not interpolating and creating new frames, as in the case of a remapping scenario. Rather it is actually grabbing those real frames. So there is no blurry interpolation artifacts. I can't reccomend it enough.

Set the recording mode to 720pn
Put the camera in film mode: Menu-> Scene File -> Mode: Film
Bump down to Frame Rate and change it from Default to 60fps
Go film something moving fast and you'll see a pronounced version of the effect right away. Enjoy. J1

I shot at 60 frames and then tried to remap in FCP to 24 - looked cruddy, juddery, like it was trying to interpolate even though it shouldn't have to (I never deinterlaced, but anyway). So in camera stuff is crisper in my experience.

What will change your life is: HD Frame Rate Converter. Basically means you can make your mind up later.
