F3: Very first screen grab on my F3

Hi everyone,
I know I come very late to the party, but I'm here! The F3 is an absolutely fantastic camera; one I have wanted to own for more than a year now. The time was right, and the seller (thanks Grug!!) was an all around great guy who made the dream a reality for me. From the moment I turned on the F3 and viewed the images on the LCD I knew I had made a very good choice.

Here is a frame grab (color corrected in Davinci Resolve 10) from my very first S&Q 60p clip on the F3. (Shot with PP S-log to SxS card) Also used MacGregors output LUT for the F35. Thanks for sharing your LUT with us MacGregor!

I have greatly appreciated this community; reading and growing from all of your knowledge and experiences with the F3, F35, F55, etc. I hope to be able to share more here, now that I've joined this great club!

cheers,
Paul

Better late than never.

nice frame grab, like the highlight bursts and skin tones.

I have some articles and information on the F3 if you use my link below.

Good luck with it and keep posting samples!

Very nice, Paul! You must really have vision if you could see something good in the LCD ; )
I always have to get back to the studio before I have any confidence in what I got.

Thanks Finn. Yes, I discovered the LCD was pretty dark as well so I bumped the brightness to +30. It seemed to help things along a bit better. Oh, and the viewing angle is harsh - I can see why it's so critical to watch your 38/68 ranges! It's also the first camera I've had with peaking and zebras. I feel deservedly spoilt coming from GH2! Cheers.

Thanks Dennis. I couldn't agree more! One advantage to buying previous generation gear is learning and watching the kinks get ironed out(to some degree anyways). S-log makes me very happy! Checking your info. Cheers

Congrats on your new camera. It's a marvel these days going cheap yet having such a great image. I decided to keep mine at least until next year.

Looks good Paul! If you do get a 10-bit recorder for the camera, the 10-bit 720p60 material upscales pretty smoothly to 1080p (you have to capture through the 'monitor' port to get 720p60 though).

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Thanks Grug,
I've petitioned Atomos to consider making a 10bit 422 Samurai Star with SDI input that will record 1080/60fps. They just released the Ninja Star (HDMI recorder @ NAB this year).
Until then, I'm quite impressed with how well 720p60 upscales - just need to get to 10bit!

Thanks Osslund, I'm amazed at this quality of image.
I've enjoyed watching your work with the F3 too. Glad you're keeping yours at least another year!

Shot these this morning during a windstorm down by the water. Crazy dark clouds mixed with burst of sunlight. Love the color tones.
