Very disappointed with P2 right now

No I don't unfortunately..

I'm on PC.

How do you put in read only state?

Oh..and I think I temporarily solved my problem. It seems that when I uninstall P2 Viewer from the computer...the card copies fine with no problem. If I go to do it again though...thats when the problem starts up again..same thing on another laptop.

It sounds like the card...however, you might check to see if your computer is automatically trying to read the card with the wrong app at insert time. May even be pcmcia driver is corrupted.

Oh, is another device plugged into any other port that may cause a contention problem?

And...did you say it has been working perfectly until just this time? Has anything changed?

I dont know of any other program on the laptop that would read the card other than Norton Antivirus, and I disabled that for the time being when I insert the card.

There's no way it can be the PCMCIA driver because I tried the same card on another laptop that has the drive and it still gave me problems.

No other device is plugged into the computer. When I insert the card..its just the card. So the only new device is the Removable Disk that pops up in Windows Explorer.

And nothing has changed to cause it to stop working properly. It just decided "Hey I dont feel like working anymore, you deal with me."
I just woke up one day and it stopped working....I was told by a waitress I met down at the beach when I went for lunch that when she worked on projects with the HVX..the P2 card had a tendency to overheat like crazy and then it became unreadable. She was some student at SVA in NYC...got her number and contact too. I told her my problem so she said if she could figure it out she'd call me or to email if I solved the problem...haha

I'm starting to think it could be that because sometimes it comes out of the laptop drive hot enough to cook eggs on. But thats not my fault then...thats an engineering problem from Panasonic.

Ouch...that seems to leave only a bad card or, heaven forbid, something wrong with the camera that created the files.

haha yeah I guess...but I'd choose the HVX over the number annnny day.

I'm going to call Panasonic right now.

Went into the heart of Panasonic today with my dad to settle this P2 issue..and it works now.

Went to Secaucus..after getting through the ex military bootcamp guard at the front gate..we go to the front desk...after tweedle dee and tweedle dum finally understood what we were there for, we were escorted to the service center where there's a giant room fullllll of equipment, cameras, tv's, decks...everything you can imagine.

So the head engineer working there came to us and helped us out. Looks like the way the P2 card recorded data was a bit off balance. Thats the way he described it...something about how the 4 SD cards inside weren't working together. He then put it in this machine..a few minutes later he takes the card out...I record some stuff to fill up the card...it works fine now. Weird stuff.

Yikes, that's a little scary that there can be an "alignment" problem that could cause data loss in these cards. Hopefully someone at Panasonic can describe the issue in more detail and tell us what to do to test for it and/or avoid having it happen.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "alignment" but I guess thats the way he would have described it in regular English terms for both of us to understand instead of engineer talk. I don't think its the actual physical alignment.

But I'll tell yah...person to person was the best way. I talked to this guy over the phone the other day and hes like..just come down to the office we'll take a look at it. Funny thing was...as he was checking out the P2 card..I was looking at his necklace for his ID and keys and it said DVXUser Film Crew on it. Logo and everything. I'm like..YO DUDE ARE YOU A MEMBER?? And this guy was like oh no sir..I got this at NAB this year at some party. I just laughed.
