Hey guys my friend and I took screenshots of the last zacuto test and did a blind test we both picked the D7000 over everything and I just want to know why the af100 looked so bad in this particular test its depressing:

Umm ... what are you looking at dude? In almost every measure of image quality, I'd choose the AF100.
Dynamic range .. color uniformity .. i might give a slight edge to the Nikon for resolution.. but that's about it.

Look at the two women on the right .. they pop out compared to the Nikon.

The black guy doesn't .. but that's a lighting thing IMHO .. use a china light and
he'll pop out too. You can't light people of different skin tones the same and expect
similar results :-)

I duno man he just looks so green/compressed and the highlights don't roll off as smooth as the other cameras. What is the point of life. asldgkajdl;

yep, I think the colors and skin tones are better looking on the AF....
Yea .. exactly . notice how you see the various highlights in the red-heads hair .. and the variations in her skin
as it goes down to her chin.

The brunette .. you can see the indentation line at the center of her bottom lip . where it's just a smudge on the
7000..

The black guy just wasn't lit right .. don't blame the cameras .. he looks bad on both. The lighting guy blew it on that
shot. There's the simple fix from lighting 101 .. put the darker skin tones closer to the light source ...

One could say that if the AF100 had more latitude that you'd be able to discern more in the shot .. but you could get an
Alexa and that shot was hosed the way it was lit. The Nikon 7000 was no better.

Why be depressed over this? The Af100 looks better. I Agree with Jeff on lighting. At the risk of going slightly off topic...this is also a case where a really professional make-up artist could have helped with the problem...and I mean helped, not solved. It's just not the camera in this case.

how do you share pictures without the forum compressing them?

I know a simple fix for the OP's issue.... go buy a d7000. And for your depression- go buy a puppy.
Leave the rest of us to play with our "bad" cameras.

Also - the D7000 is a DSLR. If I wanted a stills camera I would have bought a Canon 550D and saved a whole lot of money. I bought the AF101 because I wanted a video camera and everything that means.

Think you answered your own question. You personally, from your perspective like the look of the D7000. Whats there to debate? Go grab one and shoot!

I feel your pain - just send the AF100 to me and I'll send you a d7000 - see.. easy

talk about paralysis by analysis!

yeah i like the d7000 colors however, it does look like the af100 is more saturated. if they dialed it down im sure it will look a bit better.

Bottomline, if you make your own test, you can decide from there.

either one can produce great images in the right hands. It's all about your knowledge of lighting, knowing what your cam can and can't do. As noel said, get a nikon and shoot a film.

Every camera used in any of these recent tests done by anyone is more than capable of making something outstanding.

I like my AF100, and it's paid for, so it'll work fine for how I need it.

The purpose of the Zacuto tests was to use the cameras in extreme situations not optimize them. I think the AF100 did very well compared overall to the other DSLR flavor cameras. Now with the D4 and the new Canon camera coming soon, who knows?
