Vertical motion control

Hey guy,

looking for some smart solution of vertical motion of camera - motorized, I have been googling for couple days and I was not able to find any solution.

We will shot a lot of huge and expensive chandeliers. Those will be hanging on big crane and rotating. Client wants to have one smooth shot. Camera should move from the bottom to the view from the top. Ideally movement should be on curve but I think we can live with straight vertical move with tilting/panning. My great drawing skills shows how movement should look like:

Chandeliers are huge, the biggest is more than 10 feets. Also the solution should be portable or at least moveable on place.

We were looking at Kessler's cine drive but it looks like we are not able to do vertical movement, is that correct? Any other ideas? Unfortunately we don't have budget for real movie motion control but still there is quite nice budget.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Does it have to be repeatable motion? Why not just use a crane?
not really, motion should look similar but it doesn't have to be exact same. Crane is our plan B. We want to expand and this gig is pretty big, so we are looking for some new technology which could expand our company later.

I have the Rhino EVO MC rig and it too cannot handle vertical. I would hire a guy who owns a 20' or 25' jib and go to town. A lot of jib owner/operators will have everything you need to do complex, compund moves with flair. Leave this one to the experts, you light it and control the camera stuff remotely but designing the moves, they will be able to do stuff you have not even thought of. Look at reels and choose a good one and you will be blown away. Not as expensive as you might think too, especially if you shop.

Maybe cable? It surely can do vertical but vertical and lateral at the same time would be too much.

Hi,

I think you can buy/rent the Classic Kessler Crane (http://www.kesslercrane.com/kessler-crane) and then rig it vertically.
At that point you can use the shuttlepod+second shooter or cinedrives motor to do the move.

If you want to be lighter you can also with the shuttlepod mini with it's own custom rails. (http://www.kesslercrane.com/shuttle-pod-mini)

For all these examples you'll want to choose the high torque/500 series motors, if in doubt ask directly at kessler customer support, they are awesome :)

Hope this helps
