Is there someone who can tell me if this is necessary. It takes twice as long but I'm shure it did well storing.
Do I have to put it on verification mode or not?
Thanks
Thanks barry but, do you have good experiences with the verification off (only if you turn it off). It safes definatally some time especially in run and gun shooting. I want to take all out of the P2 because I love it, but that's why I want to know if there a significant risk in turning it off. I don't wanna nag about it. I underdstand your answer anyway.
I've been using the P2 Store for 10 days on a feature shoot with verification -OFF-. Averaging 10-12 card downloads/day. Zero defects. The system works quite well, though to be truthful, this is a low-budget indie. If there were more $$$ I would insist on a role being assigned to a backer (new film set role for what was the 2AC-loader) who will back up the P2 Store to a second drive on an ongoing basis, so the realistic risk of loosing footage would never be more than 1 card.
Cheers
Well, I'll put it this way -- everything you do, all your efforts, all your money spent, all your time, all your hard work, all your sets and all your rehearsal and all your everything, all gets recorded as your footage.
Is there anything, anywhere, more important than ensuring that your footage is FLAWLESS?
I refuse to shoot on HDV tape whenever possible because I can't stomach the idea of a 15-frame dropout scragging the footage. It's very remote, but I've had it happen, and I won't have it happen again.
I refuse to use cheapo DV tapes; yes I could save a whole dollar or two per tape by using cheap tapes, but that's just not gonna happen -- I'll gladly pay the extra to get at least MQ's.
And when it comes to P2 footage, I will not only offload with verify, but I'll make two copies whenever possible. There is absolutely no way I'm going to accept any circumstances where my footage could get trashed, just because I was trying to save four minutes. No possible way. There is just no way it would be worth it. Even if I transferred a thousand cards and never had a verify error, I still would use verify because if it ever does happen (that a transfer fails the verify) I want to know IMMEDIATELY, *before* reformatting that card!
I won't burn a DVD without verify on, and I sure won't transfer irretrievable, expensive-to-create footage without verify.
It's obviously an individual decision, you can set your own priorities, but I wouldn't do it.

well put Barry, you're absolutely right. I do a lot ENG kind of filming. DV50 is my way to go, so with 4 gig. and verify on its 6 to 8 minutes offloading. In my workflow that's tight change-p2 card-time, so that was my only concern.. thanks for your vast explanation.
