Kaku posted some SD raw MXF clips (DVCPRO 50) and I thought I'd give it a try on my PC based VelocityHD NLE.
They work!!!
Just drag the MXF clips into the timeline and hit play... no preprocessing. Also very cool is being able to do real-time dissolve between each other and other clips made via the NLE's native codec, either compressed or uncompressed. Real-time color correction also.
Bad news? Right now support is limited to DVCPRO 50, timeline is 60i or 30p, and any 24p is not auto detected and pull down removed for a 23.976 timeline, but hey, a work in progress with promise. Also I couldn't find any metadata in the clip info, and not sure if Kaku's timecode defaults back to 00:00:00:00 with each new recording, but that's what I'm seeing.
The colors look great, BTW and such a treat not to see bleeding reds, etc. Velocity HD isn't a cheap choice (same range as Matrox's new hardware), but I think full support is just around the corner and it is yet another pc based option...
