Hi everyone!
Sorry I haven't been able to contribute lately to the forum. I still don't have an NLE for my feature-length documentary, given that I was originally going to use Avid XPress Pro HD with the native HDV support. But since I am shooting 720 at 24P in the GY-HD, unless they release something soon (besides Liquid 7), I need scrap Avid for now.
Here's what I found out today, and for anyone who has about $20,000 + to spend on an NLE. I spoke with a VelocityHD rep today, who was in Washington DC for a convention, and when I asked the question of native 24p ProHD support (via GY-HD), he went over to the JVC booth. Leitch will be hopefully getting back with me tomorrow with more info, but here is what you can do with the system, and has been confirmed by this rep for Leitch:
1) Native GY-HD100U 720/24p is possible, but only through an SDI output, and not firewire. That is needed to acquire the signal into their hardware, which is known as Altitude. That means a direct firewire connection from either the camera or BR-HD50u is not possible through this workflow. However...
2) Why not get an AD converter? Take the RGB and convert it to SDI thru an AJA converter. That's about $1500 right there, but still, theoretically this is viable.
3) When fed thru the SDI coax, the 4:1:1 is changed to 4:2:2
Again, I requested for Leitch to test this out, and I'll keep this thread updated if anyone wants more info about this. This same guy did test out 720/30P GY-HD footage going into Velocity HD, and that worked fine. Has anyone worked with VelocityHD yet, or created an HD100-friendly workflow with Velocity?
