Veiwing and using 370 footage with Final cut

Hello All. We just picked up a new HPX370. Now my memory may be off (as it can be) but I thought I had read that if you have FCP 7 you can pretty much import the footage from the camera and view and edit it natively without needing any other codec/software. Do we need to purchase anything additionally to use the footage?

Thanks for your help.

Paul

Yes all you do is hook up the camera in device mode and go straight into Log and Transfer, FCP will then see the cards and load the footage into the viewer, check in preferences that the import profile is set to native and off you go.

Note you can also select other options such as pro res LT if you don't need full native import but AVC Intra 100 imported natively will be re-wrapped as pro res HQ once it is loaded to your scratch drives.

This is NOT the best way though.

You should mount the P2 Cards on the desktop with a P2 Card Reader (Direct to camera will work) Use software like P2CMS (Free) or Shotput Pro (Not Free) And move the card media over to your computer's Hard Drive locally. These software's will Verify the copy to be safest. This is your tape master. Back it up on at least 2 separate hard drives. THEN, L&T the media into FCP.

I agree and a further option is to set the camera to HOST and hookup a USB drive, you can then clone and verify the cards this way and then this becomes your back-up, after cloning use the USB drive to load into FCP via log and transfer.
