Vegas update question

I just downloaded the update for V5.0. At the web site it says 5.0a but the file name after the download says 5.0 in the properties.?????

Is this the whole program? The file size is 41.1 MB so I'm guessing it is. Should I just load this file and not used the factory CD I just got in the mail?

One more question. What DVD burner are most of you using? I have yet to buy one.
Thanks!

Re: Vegas update question

You should be able to use either without a problem.

The three DVD burners most commonly used among us appear to be by Pioneer, Sony, and HP. New models come out all the time.

Re: Vegas update question

The file on the website is an update from what comes on the CD. Install the one from the web.

Also be sure to download (separately) the Magic Bullet MovieLooks file and the Boris Graffiti LTD file. Those install separately from Vegas.

Re: Vegas update question

It's my understanding that 5.0a was available on the web actually before anyone received their 5.0 CD's. Don't know what the changes are, obviously some bug fixes or something.

Re: Vegas update question

OHHHHH. Yes. I remember something about that now. I didn't get the V5 CD at all, so I downloaded 5a from the start.

Re: Vegas update question

Yes, less than a week after Vegas5 was officially released, 5.0a was released.  It fixed problems that were not caught before the CDs were sent out for replication.  So definitely use the download :)

As for burners, I would also add Plextor to the list.  I have the 8x model sitting in an external enclosure (USB2/Firewire).  Works great, no problems.  All I have to do now is get good media (I got the wrong batch of Memorex DVD+R's and it burns at like 1-3x when they're supposed to be 4x-- meaning that I should be able to burn them at 8x).

Re: Vegas update question

I tried to just install the file from the web but it said I needed a Microsoft.net file so I loaded v5.0 from my disk.
I'll try to install the update tonight and then check the version number in "about Vegas".

Thanks for the info on the DVD-R drives.

Re: Vegas update question

Vegas 5.0a or 5.0 needs the .Net framwork from Microsoft to run properly, a number of the scripts need that to function properly.
