VEGAS PURCHASE.

Best deal on full purchase version of Vegas 4.0?

Yeah, I know, search the internet; I just wanted to know if you guys had already found a great place to purchase it. It looks like I might get it for X-mas (2 months beofre my B-day).

Another question: Is it advisable to get the PLUS DVD version?

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

I always regret not getting the +DVD version. Though I don't even have a DVD burner yet, I would really liked to have the 5.1 audio encoder that comes free with DVDA. Otherwise, the encoder alone is quite expensive.

If you can find a good deal, go for it.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

Jive and 24Peter aren't the only ones with that regret. I know a couple of people here in Montreal that regret not getting the DVD package at the same time. I suggest you get it.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

I got Vegas+DVD brand new, sealed-in-the-box, unregistered, etc (i.e., legitimately brand new) for $299 from ebay seller softwarestore. It doesn't look like they have any auctions running right now, but if you write to 'em and ask 'em, perhaps they still have a few?

If you have interest in making DVD's, especially with surround-sound audio, definitely get the +DVD version. It includes an AC-3 surround-sound audio encoder. If you never intend to make a DVD or don't care about surround, then the regular Vegas 4.0 is the same one that's in the +DVD version.

Vegas+DVD = Vegas 4.0 plus DVD Architect plus AC-3 encoder.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll check em all out. The seed has been planted to EVERYONE I KNOW that Vegas is what I want and need for [glow=red,2,300]X[/glow][glow=green,2,300]MAS[/glow].

I don't know what I need. I just want to make films. DVD, transfer to film, hell, preserved on the MQ. I just want to create.

All of the other options (DVD, film, festivals, etc) are just bonuses for me. I'll def look into the DVD action.

Are you sure you didn't buy the academic version?  That's the going price for that version.  I'm not sure if there's anything different about it, nor if the license restricts the software's use.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

The Academic version was actually a bit cheaper, it was like $265. This was the full retail version, and it was a screaming deal, probably $60 to $100 less than I'd seen it offered by anyone else.

I didn't have to supply any sort of academic eligibility, and there's no indication to it being academic or restricted in any way, so I'm sure it's the full legit real deal...

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

I know people on eBay sell academic versions all the time. As far as I can tell, it's the exact same item you'd buy as the non-academic version -- same box, same manuals, everything.

Not to be confused with clearly pirated copies, of course . . .

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

Since I hear everyone using the term Vegas 4.0 I assume that it is the most recent version. Is a newer upgrade on the way? Would it be smart to wait for the next version? Thanks guys.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

there have been a few updates to 4.0 so far.. I think its at 4.0d or 4.0e now (thanks for reminding me to check)
anyways, they are free updates.

I think you got till April at least before 5.0 comes out, I cant remember which NAB i was when 3.0 was out, either 2 years ago or 3...? If it was 2 then I would assume they are on a yearly update.. then again Sony is in charge now....

Anyways, it should be a cheap upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0 so I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Re: VEGAS PURCHASE.

Just Installed the Vegas 4.0 Demo, been playing around with it a bit, seems a bit confusing, it doesnt want to load any of my mpegs? (ok some of them load) on the whole its seems very stable compared to media pro, and Adobe..

What do you guys think of vegas as a serious NLE? can it compete with FCP ( i understand that this may have discussed before), since it seems FCP and adobe/ Avid are industry standrd, but i find those other pakages unstable, i.e i want something that is fast relaible and fairly powerful ( i'm not exactly gonna be making FX like Lord of The rings)

One other quesion in terms of rendering to DVD what mpeg encoder does it use? and does anyone know of the final qaulity?
