Vegas Pro 9- NAB

That's right... that's how I already did it.. :embarasse lol
I just never got it dark enough... something to do while I wait for someone to post from NAB!

When will V9 be available?

EDIT: It wouldn't let me while keeping the XP style, I had to go back to Classic.

David, can we set the color of the BG for the audio and video clips? I want to windows darker but then the contrast between the clips and the window make it tough to work.

On topic:
Do we have a DVXuser at NAB? If not we should ask Barry to go check it out.

Don't know -- never really tried. Might have something to do with the window background setting, but I don't know that for sure.

When will V9 be available?

5/11/2009.

That's when it will sell.
I don't know if they will have a free download before then.

Thanks USLatin and David for the tip.
I'll play around with my Windows theme to see what I can do.

Vegas 9 Pro my not seem like much is new to some but I'm pretty jazzed about it.
Time will tell....

The upgrade will be $234.95 after 5/11/09 is my understanding but you can pick it up for $50 off until then. Perhaps they'll extend it longer but who knows for sure. I just paid $184.95 for the V9 pre-order on their site. You won't see the discount until you put the upgrade in the cart and go on in the checkout process. Then the discount magically appears in the cart.

Can't download until its actually available on 5/11 though.

It looks great for a lot of people. I, personally, don't need the upgrade, though. I'm still living in DVXland... and will be for quite some time.

Roberto---
Red announced Red Rocket, an accelerator capable of RT debayer of 5k 24/5fps and playback. (< $5,000)

Unfortunately, it seems Vegas was left out of the announcement!

Red Says "Will accelerate FCP, Premiere, After Effects, RED Alert!, REDCINE, REDrushes or any application using the REDCODE SDK.

Does that mean it will work with Vegas? This was be incredible, the New Trifecta- Scarlett, Vegas and this new Unit- WOW

Well since it works with SDK based stuff I am assuming it will. So far I was only able to get one other person to say they think the same, for Vegas...

Is there any way for Vegas to have made r3d native without the use of their SDK? I guess not right? But I don't know enough about this stuff.

The link is for new purchasers. To upgrade you follow a different link.

By the way, Sony throws in a free upgrade for recent Vegas 8 purchasers - within 30 days prior to their v9 pre-release date, so from 03/20/09 or so. Unfortunately I missed the free upgrade window by 2 weeks :-<

Chris.

I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sure looks like the $183 special pre-order upgrade price is only good up until the point where you can actually download the demo.

That's different from what they did in the past, where existing users could upgrade for that price for about 30 days after the demo became available.

What's that got to do with Raylight?

Just to confirm, would Raylight (be it the regular release or the new ULTRA) still be compatible with Vegas 9.0? It's kind of funny that DVFilm went all out to optimize for Vegas 8 with ULTRA, and within a month the new Vegas is announced.

As I understand it, though, Raylight allows MXF playback within Windows and shouldn't be program specific, but I thought I'd check before I plunk down for the upgrade.

This upgrade will be nice for me, since I'll be leapfrogging from 7 to 9 and will finally be able to tinker with Blu-ray burning.

I guess it should. Whats also funny is that just after they announce Ultra, Panasonic announced their next recording format, AVC Ultra.

I can't wait to get a gauge for whether V9 on an oveclocked i7 system can edit RedCode at 1080p using Red Rocket. And if that is in fact possible, which would be 4:4:4 1080p RGB RT editing, then I pray we'll be able to find a way to work with a post house using something like Scratch for finishing without having to jump through a million hoops to get not only an EDL but hopefully some sort of CDL... David, maybe you can give me an idea of how it might work out ATM? Please.

When I heard the news about V9 having Red Code native support I got so exited, yet scared at the same time... it would be such a royal PITA if V9 gets so close yet so very far... I hope we are not going to get teased with native support yet lack the actual necessary workflow, or the speed necessary.

Someone just posted this over at RedUser

http://www.jetdv.com/tts/TTS07-01.pdf

This sounds cool:
"Under File - Properties is another new option
called Adjust source media to better match project
or render settings. When turned on, Vegas will make
minor tweaks to the source media properties to allow
those media files to work better with your project.
This can include minor cropping or padding of the
frame size and adjusting interlacing."

I guess this could help when you need to add the slight crop necessary for DVDs.

There are many more that sound great:
"with snapping
turned on, hold down the shift key while dragging the
event and it will no longer snap."

"The default keyframe and fade types can now all
be adjusted in the Options - Preferences - External
Control & Automation tab. Previously these
could all be adjusted quickly only via scripts. Now
you can set how each of these keyframe and fade types
should be set by default eliminating the need to manually
adjust each one."

"When you hold down CTRL+ALT+Shift and click
on an event, it will split the event."

"Audio adjustments are now more precise as well.
When adjusting an audio only event, you will no longer
be restricted to frame boundaries. Even with Quantize
to Frames turned on, the audio can be adjusted in subframe
increments."

On, a whole little forum. I have never visited it and wouldn't know here to find the answers/reports to my questions.

Do you have a beta version running on your computer ATM?
What hardware are you using? Have you tried using .r3d?
I am very interested in getting a gauge of the speed of V9 with Red Code.

(nothing on EDLs right?)
