Vegas Interface Freeze,, Immediately after render.

Well, if it only happens with ONE project, then it's that project to blame. Maybe you are using a picture, or an .mp3 or a third party filter, or something, that causes the problem.

Disassemble your projects until you find the culprit. If you had told us from the beginning that this happens with a single project, this thread wouldn't be 2 pages long. All it takes is you trying to remove stuff one by one to find what's the problem.

This is a standard practice, and in fact, it shouldn't even be a thread here before you have tried this. I am coming from the programming world, and so when my application is crashing and if normal debugging tools offer no help, I remove bits one by one until I find the culprit. And only if I can't find the culprit at the very end, I only then ask for help.

Eugenia is right. If you made this disclosure earlier the responses would have focused in better. You clearly have a machine with the horse power to run Vegas and even edit HD source material. You have a decent size investment and I assume a passion for video.

That said you definitely have a problem that's worth time to eliminate. If it is only with this one project then do as Eugenia recommends. You can save the project under a different name to back it up then start disassembling it to see if you can identify the issue.

Try removing all affects first (if applied)
remove the clips one at a time and render to see if you can resolve the issue
have you applied any audio affects or MP3 clips? if so remove these as with video.

BTW what operating system are you using and what version of Vegas? Vegas 7 and prior has issues with Vista. Even ver. 8 is suspect with Vista because of driver issues.

You built your own computer from components and a ram chip issue is possible but if you only have this isolated problem that is unlikely.

I have personally experienced an issue with a bad source clip that crashed my system. It was necessary to recapture the clip, which resolved the issue.

Hope you find the solution.

Eugenia > Sorry about that but i was trying all alternates as i was reporting this on the site. I posted because i might need to sort this asap. But it seems the thing has happened on a few projects earlier. But another thing is i work on only one project a time. Im not running a video business. So i dont get a project everyday if u get my drift. I only do my own work which is primarily for our live events, projection rigs etc. So i at the most have only 2 to 3 projects saved on my system. Its prob the worlds most tidy system...:) one project is finished i first flush out all material / or archive and then only load in footage and start the next project. Hope you understand. This problem has appeared at occasions so theres no telling that its only because of the rogue project. Your help is appreciated and i have no intentions of wasting peoples time here. You should accept the fact that not all people come from the programming world and hence wouldnt think like you do. Please remm that the program doesnt crash while its rendering the project but rather feeezes for a short period AFTER a render is just completed. Then all clips show as offline and buttons dont activate. Random selection starts etc etc. However nothing validates... "buy a new PC". You should have asked what specs my pc had before you jumped to conclusions.

Scannon > Hi, Im using XP Pro. With SP2. Vegas 7. I had 2gb ram so far. Recently upgraded to 3 gb.

I had also, on purchase, done a number of registry tweaks which help optimize the system and its usage of Pagefile and Ram etc. Unfortunately all this was done with the 2gb ram. Now after adding 1gb on i guess the math changes right. The tweaks have certainly helped stabilize my system and overall performance. But i dont know wether i have to rerun the tweaks and enter in values with the 3gb in mind. Because some tweaks ask you to enter a dvalue exactly 2/3rds of available ram etc right. Now when the ram has been increased i guess these things have to be changed. Just thinking aloud. Is it more stable to add one more gb ram making it 4gb. I mean with reference to the myth that some people say we should have an even number of ram chips on the board ?

I am not sure about your registery tweaks as to whether they need to be redone. But be advised the 32bit Windows will not use more than 3.2 mb of ram as it is a system limitation. So even if you installed 4 mb it would ony show and utilize around 3.2 mb. Check that you have the latest driver for you Nvidia card. If for example you set the Page file to "system manged size" it will choose the right amount and will detect the available ram for writing and reading the page file.

As long as you are able to work at least you can edit but I can appreciate the inconvenience.

No wonder my computer is so slow. Just kidding gb it is, my typo:thumbsup:

Thanks,

David You said > You mean "GB" of RAM, but yes. :).

You meant yes as in ?? Yes to rerun the tweaks. Or yes for windows wont use more that 3.2 GB ?

He was correcting my typo and confirming Windows 32 bit won't use more than 3.2 gb or ram. You can try tweaking you paging file size or set to "windows managed size", etc. But I don't think this is your problem re the lock up.

So far ive worked on two other projects and havent had the lock up problem. I somehow managed to render the troublesome project.

I have the same issue trying to use MTS files raw from the HMC150.... Sometimes it works... MOST of the time it freezes soon as i start to render...................................... Very annoying...
