Vegas conversion or not?

Yeah, an interesting choice of words. OOPS! :)

Like trying to compliment a date with "Yeah, that looks great on you ... if that's all you had in the closet."

I agree with David. I like the fact that everything is done in one program. I can edit, do the effects I want, create the text I want (I don't have the experience to do nice fancy effects on text, so that doesn't affect me at all). I'm sure we could all come up with a wish list of things to be included in Vegas, but like I have said before, Vegas is deep enough for a pro and open enough for a newbie to pick it up and run with it. It allows for creation at all levels of experience. Hell, Hudson used it  , what more needs to be said?

What I'm saying is that I don't understand why you'd be "confined" to Vegas if you use Vegas? I'm not aware of any After Effects or Audition inhibitors which get installed with Vegas, so nothing's off the table . . .

cant have it both ways gents. Either you like to do all your audio and video effects in vegas or you like to wait 5-10 minutes for your audio or video section to render out of vegas so you can work on it.

I have no idea what you're talking about. You can still use After Effects and Audition if you use Vegas. Are you claiming you can't?

No, it doesn't have the same level of integration as Premiere, but nother does any NLE other than Premiere. Are you claiming that you can't use AE or Audition if you use anything other than Premiere?

"Both ways"? What are the "ways"?

Even after your edit, I don't see how it's a limitation of Vegas, how you're "confined" to anything.

There are a great deal of video effects option within Vegas, so there are many things you don't need to go to After Effects for . . . but you still can if you want to. You're not "confined."

There are a great deal of audio effects options (the best set of tools of any NLE) within Vegas, so there many things you wouldn't need to go to Audition for (though I'd take Sound Forge or ACID over Audition any day) . . . but you still can if you want to. You're not "confined."

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you and you're complimenting Vegas, but it doesn't seem that way.

LOL o.k. you're entitled to your opinion. I can respect that. Point is..I'm sure alot of people don't want to render out of vegas to work on it in these professional programs. If you do, then I respect that. Thats hardcore nle loyalty. We can all agree, that when someone says"how do you do this in vegas" many people will pop up with "well, you do this and this and so forth then this then that, and finally this and that, and bam you got this simple effect" Hey more power to ya. See ya in an hour when your done. To me thats confining. Either way your losing valuable time. Am I saying highly polished professional work can't be done on vegas, no of course not. Vegas is a great program. Just stating some of it's limitations as percieved by me. If this is a thread where we are only aloud to say glorious things about vegas then my bad. If your gonna sit here and tell me the intergration of adobe products(specifically with AE) isn't a major advantage and consideration, well I'd say you're wrong. A cut is a cut.

STYLZ, you crack me up. You're not confined to just Vegas. An alternative, and a darn good one too, to Audition is Sound Forge ... you can work between Vegas & Sound Forge the same way you can Premiere & Audition.

As far as being so incredibly limited with Vegas compared to being able to transition back & forth with AE & Premiere, it would be no different than Avid, or Pinnacle Liquid. The Adobe family simply has a robust effects program that will integrate well with their own product, vs. the others NLE families don't.

But, as a stand alone product, not taking into account any of the other software it can work with, are you trying to say that Premiere can do more than Vegas?

NLE to NLE, which is what I thought King was asking about, Vegas is hard to beat. Otherwise, if we want to get into a debate about limitations of software working with one another, etc., then I'd actually take FCP in a heartbeat over Premiere, because of Live Type, Shake, and the other Mac programs that integrate with it.

That's comparing apples to apples between the Adobe family & the Apple stuff ... IMHO.

Sound forge, got it. Definately doesn't suit me. Noise reduction is weak. Where and when did I say p.pro can do more than vegas? Oh thats right I didn't. A cut is a cut. Already said that. Vegas definately does have a better audio toolset.
I'd take FCP too. Not the issue here though.
So an nle's intergration with other professional media programs isn't a factor in choosing that nle?Hmmmm. O.k.
And yes other pc nle's don't have the intergration. I'd state such on conversion questions on that as well. If asked. Lesson learned. Do not say anything against a particular sites choice of nle. Just tried to play the devils advocate here, and got made the devil....

Keep in mind my original post, I said get the demo. Which means try it out if it suits you great, if not oh well. Not once did I say, don't get vegas, or don't waste your time. All boils down to what suits him best.

Look, you're not making sense.

You seem to be saying that if you use Vegas, you can't use AE or Audition.

That's just plain wrong. You can use Vegas with AE exactly the same way you can use it with FCP or Avid or Edition. I'll ask you again -- are you also claiming you can't use AE with those programs?

If it's a "limitation" in your eyes that Adobe doesn't integrate AE with any other NLEs except its own, well, then so be it, but it's a pretty weak argument. And one that's easily overcome by the many advantages (listed above) that Vegas has over Premiere. And it's a "limitation" that's also applicable to every NLE but Premiere. Is that a good enough reason to use Premiere? If for you, then fine . . . but better integration with AE is hardly compelling in and of itself to, I'd wager, most users.

And let's be clear -- yes, you can open Premiere projects in AE . . . but in order to get your footage BACK to Premiere, you have to render it out of AE . . . so how much time do you really save? You only save time on the front end, and considering that for the most part, if you're going to AE, you're exporting a clip of no more than 10-20 seconds, probably with no effects added (otherwise, why are you going to AE?) and that only takes a few seconds . . . so you're not really saving that much time after all. (To say nothing of the fact that most people probably go directly to the raw video files, anyway, so there's no exporting.)

No one said you can't say anything negative about Vegas. But if you do, make it constructive, and accurate. Otherwise, it's just trolling.

I don't believe anyone's made you out to be the devil ... Perhaps you're reading our posts incorrectly, the same way we apparently read yours.

It SOUNDED like a derogatory statement when you said: "If you want to be confined to doing everything in a nle, it might work out for you"

I'm not sure how many people take confined as a positive word ... usually carries a negative statement with it. To say that you're confined and have to do everything in that NLE says that you can't work with other products as well ... which is just not the case. Sure, there may be one extra step IF you need something that Vegas doesn't have built in, but otherwise I'd bank that you can do more in Vegas than you can in any other NLE alone.

Yeah, it sure did.

"Test drive that new car. If you like a car you have to get out and push after 100 miles, it might be the car for you!"

O.k. sorry. Won't state my opinions or facts on vegas anymore. I'm done with it.\

Dude, it's not your opinion that people are getting on you about, its how you express your opinion. Let's say you were going to buy a car, you know you want a BMW. So you walk into a Mercedes show room and you just start bashing their cars, how service sucks, how much better a BMW is, and how confined someone feels in the car. Don't you think you would get a similar reaction?

Expressing an opinion is fine if it is dealt with in an appropriate manner. Personally I have never explored the FCP threads because I don't use it and don't plan on using it. I don't go looking to bash things unless I have the hands on experience with it, and even then, why bash when it is easier to just sit back and say nothing.
