OK, I've used Premiere since it's early days, and I'm familiar with FCPro.
Anyone have a simple top ten reasons (or more) to switch to Vegas?

I'm open to trying some new tools.

Oh oh. Here we go again. King, if you do a little checking, I think you'll find several threads that have TONS of reasons ... I'll see if I can find one for you.

Here's one
VEGAS Vs. FCP ... http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=32005

Here's a review I found on the Vegas 6 software: http://vegas.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=34234&afterinter=true

Here's a bit that has the Vegas package Vs. the Adobe package: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=28562

Someone asked about switching from Adobe to Vegas: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=27663

24P Squeeze - Vegas, FCP or Premiere?: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=27761

Vegas best for DVX100? (I know, King, you're on XL2): http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=32336

Some thoughts about how powerful the program is, started by moderator David Jimmerson: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=17373

Some other things I'd consider, King, is look at all the threads & posts Vegas has compared to any other NLE. Also, I'd say most of the mods on the boards prefer & use Vegas as well. In fact, Jarred even got a new Mac, FCP, the works ... then tossed it all to go back to Vegas, and that was just recently.

top 10 reasons vegas is better than Ppro

1: 10x more stable
2: Adobe liscensing sucks, vegas is way more open.
3: Bezier masking within the NLE
4: time envelopes, fully rampable, last time I checked, still unavailable in Premiere
5: Full 24P SUPPORT, not "buggy", not "only works by doing this"... and it's super easy.
6: Frequent updates, so adobe guys, when was the last time you had your software updated.
7: Vegas does not make you pay for your updates (not say upgrades, just updates), remember paying for Premiere pro 1.5 (really only was an update) after just buying premiere pro, well I don't that's when I bailed.
8:Personally find editing faster
9: I have to go to class so I'll post some more later, but keep in mind, these are things that I personally found to be better, with my setup and my personal experience, so don't come in here telling me it's all lies, I was an adobe user for many years, and was ultimately forced to leave for something better, as many others have done.

My only concern with telling people who are used to P Pro, FCP, etc. to try the free trial with Vegas is that they may be totally confused by the interface, as it's quite a bit different in look than the others.

Just like when I look at P Pro, I can't make heads or tails out of it, and it's just plain frusterating.

Of course, try it for free ... just my only concern about it when people test it, coming from another NLE.

When I made the move to Vegas I had a completely different reaction. I thought "This is too easy, this program must have no depth". Vegas is just easy to get started with, and then it gets really really deep.

I had Vegas 3 & 4, and never used either of them because I couldn't figure out what the hell I was doing.

Then the Ah-hah! came with 5 (and I've no idea why), and it all made sense. :)

I always sum it with

I had literally no expereince with NLE's and picked up VEAGS for 24p support specifically and it's so easy it's stupid. Really. Look at PESTILENCE or LUPEr or anything else; now if I can hack those out then anyone can. And LUPER was edited in like 2 days.

VEGAS kicks ass. There's a reason SONY bought it.

Well; it's already been a couple of versions and it keeps getting better.

They own it; but all that means is they own the licensing (generally speaking).

That seems to be a hang up with a lot of people, especially those with a lot of video experience. They figure if it's that easy, it must be inferior.

Well, tools exist to make work easier. If you're getting the same result with less work, you've got a better tool.

That's funny, but you're right, people DO tend to think that way. Which is odd, because if I picked up a hammer & could drive a nail with just one hit, I'd never say "Something's wrong, this is too easy. Hey Joe, give me that other piece of crap again ... yeah, the one the with the head that keeps falling off!"

This should be a commercial for Sony...

Of course try the vegas demo. If your not use to audition and after effects it might work out lovely. If you want to be confined to doing everything in a nle, it might work out for you.
