6 doesn't have any ability to remove the pulldown. I think 7 does, but Vegas is due for an upgrade very soon to add AVC-HD support. If 7 doesn't yet offer it, you can bet that it will very soon since Sony's own V1U records its 24P the same way the HV20 does.

I had the same question. My HV20 is enroute. I've been spoiled by Vegas and my DVX 100 playing so well together. There have been some rumblings that FCP has problems automatically removing pulldown in HV20 clips. I'm hoping this isn't an issue with Vegas and the HV20.

any soulutions yet toediting hv20 24p footage in vegas yet David ???

Mark Dog, by HV20 is backordered at Best Buy but I have been playing with HV20 footage that I've downloaded off the net. Vegas 7.0d does not remove the pulldown but you can bet they will address this in a future release. I believe CineForm Hdlink can remove the pulldown and its codec should help Vegas playback the 1080p footage at a very good rate. Anybody here use CineForm Hdlink?

k cool David ill look for your answer when you finsh playing with it , tell us how u like it to and maybe a snipt o footage David if you camnn thanx for your help David apreciate it

OK, having messed with it for a little bit (serious testing still to be done) . . .

No, you can't remove pulldown. Not automatically, and not using the "manual" pulldown removal Vegas offers.

You can do it really manually, though, using a very tedious, very slow, very cumbersome process which no one in their right mind would adopt as a standard workflow, not to mention that it loses a generation (or two) of quality. But if you really want to try it, here it is:

Bring the footage into an HDV-60i timeline.

Go into Project Properties, and change the frame rate to 23.976 and field order to Progressive. Set deinterlace method to none.

Go into clip properties, then change the playback rate to 0.400. Drag the end out until you loop, then just settle on the natural end of the clip.

Render the footage under MPEG-2 by using the default template, which should adopt your timeline properties -- if it doesn't, go to the HDV 1080-60i template, but again, change the render properties to frame rate 23.976 (NOT -- repeat, NOT -- with "+ 2:3 pulldown"), field order Progressive, and the visual quality slider to 31.

Then, bring that rendered clip back into your timeline. In its clip Properties, set the playback rate to 2.5. Drag the edge in until you get rid of the wedges in the top. Delete its audio.

Then, right-click on the ORIGINAL clip in the Media Pool, drag it to the timeline, and select "Audio Only" -- "Across Time." The audio clip should be the same length as the new clip, so you should be able to match it up end-for-end. Then, just select both and press "G" to group them together.

Then, render that new clip with the same settings, and you have a 23.976p clip.

But, like I said, ludicrous.

yea you think they will take care of this issue in the next update of vegas David to work with the hv20 ???

As Barry said, the Sony V1U works the same way, so you can almost count on it.
Well how about just editing the files as 60i? The 24p files are embedded in a 60i stream right? I'm going to output to SD DVD anyway (not HD). If I down rez in Vegas and output to a standard DVD, most DVD players/HD TV's remove pulldown on their own... Or does the encoding/down rez screw up the pulldown flags?

If we wait for Vegas 8, wasn't 7 just released last fall instead of a NAB '06? So it might be a while...

any news david on a update to vegas 7 to handle getting footage for the hv20 in 24p ?????????????????????????????

I expect news next week at NAB.
Looks like nada for now...
Barry - I'm a bit confused: it looks like Sony added support for the V1U in release 7.0c ( http://sony-946.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/releasenotes/vegas70d_readme.htm ) So that would mean we'd already know if the flags (or whatever it is that allows automatic pulldown removal) in the Canon/Sony 24p files were the same. Is the consensus still that Vegas 7(c or above) cannot do automatic pulldown removal on the HV20 files? Supposedly Cineform Connect HD does detect pulldown from HV20 files but it creates it's own (larger) intermediate files and also costs $200 (in addition to $235 for me to upgrade from Vegas 5 to 7). Any thoughts?

I was just going to buy a HV20 (PAL) to complete my DVX 100 BE and upgrade from Vegas 6 to 7 when I read this.
Now I don´t know if I should do either of it for now.
Perhaps Sony is going to do an upgrade not an update when
they have fixed this problem?
