Vegas Academic?

Hi, Brand new here. Got my dvx100a yesterday. I have decided to get vegas as my nle, I was wondering if the academic version had any restrictions, my daughter is a college student, so she could purchase it legitimately, but could I use it and register it. Any one done anything like this? Or should I just pony up to the table and buy it.

no restrictions at all.. Just one of the few kick backs you get for putting your kids through school :)

When you register the program, it won't ask you for any credentials. That's supposed to happen between the seller and the buyer. You're golden.

I got Vegas with the DVD Architect when I was teaching a Digital Video Class with a academic discount and there are no restrictions. Install and start editing.

I shot a trailer/promo for Battlestar Galatica for Richard "Apollo" Hatch. He was trying to revive the series. Unfortunetly, his concept was not picked. It was a labor of love and I don't regret working on it. Plus, how many people can say they have Cylons on the demo reel.

I did end up shooting a pilot for Richard for another sci-fi series called "The Great War of Magellan". It's sort of a Road Warrior in Space.

The full trailer cannot be shown on the net because of copyright issues. Richard doesn't own any rights to it and was on a short lease from Universal. He was allowed to show it at Sci-Fi Conventions, but not allowed to post it on the net or sell copies. Now, I must say that he did get invited to many more conventions with the trailer and his appearance fee went up, so he did ok.

fantastic, I have it coming, some guy on ebay, I just told him I have a daughter in college, and he is good with that.

Thanks for the info, this is going to be a great place to learn this stuff. Wait til you see my demo reel, it will be full of border collies and hot chicks, kinda like the movie "Babe". But I digress....

Just be careful when buying software on ebay.  Just make sure you've received the actual product, with manual and all.  Ebay is one of the biggest places for software piracy.  I don't know how much you got it for, but an academic reseller such as www.academicsuperstore.com has very good prices and free shipping.
