Vegas 8, render time impressive

Might be a stupid question, but does Vegas 8 (Or Vegas 7 for that matter) take advantage of dual core processors? I have an AMD X2 4200+ that I recently upgraded from a laptop with, and I'm still using Vegas 4. As far as I can tell, 4 doesn't support multiprocessor or dual core CPUs insofar as an increased throughput.

Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

I believe both cores are used in rendering, but not in timeline preview.

I will do a test to see if this is different with my trial version of 8.

Wisted, if you are using Raylight then all cores are used, but not completely optimized as I noticed with my Duo and Quad setups that they would only get to about 80% usage per core on preview or much much lower. Still Raylight will provide a huge boos in performance and the ability to drop MXF files right in.

I was getting 18fps on full playback at best settings before with 24f HDV footage. I now get 23.96 (full framerate).

That is without any CC at all.

ok so you got a 6fps or more increase, nice!!!! WOW!

Anyone else?

The test wasn't perfect... I had some other windows up and it wasn't right after a restart but I know it's a good bit better.

I agree Bball... a 6fps increase means there is a noticeable difference under any circumstances... well basically... but it is a BIG improvement... there could have been better but I'll take anything with all the stuff that was added.

Question... was that with Raylight? If so what setting? Green?

Have you tried to preview bigger? I'd love to hear about full screen 720p preview with no CC and right after a re-start... I haven't installed V8 yet since I am wrapping up a short right now and I don't want to risk any mess-ups

No Raylight or anything.

I can get full frame playback (1920 x 1080) at 24f and 30f. I have not tried 60i.

Before I had about 18 FPS with those settings.

Dual core running at 3.2, 2 gig of memory at about 1024.

I downloaded the trial version of Vegas Pro 8 yesterday. I did two test renders each 30 seconds long.

1) 8 bit to SD. 1.23
2) 32 bit HDV avi 3:25

So far I am dissappointed in these times. I was expected far superior results. Should have gone for the dual Xeons. I will say I am not yet familiar with the render settings in Vegas. Pointers welcome.

And your are on "Preview" and "Auto" right? That is great! Bet you are happy to get 24fps now. Well then I want to hear from someone with Raylight installed now. Hopefully also with a Duo clocked like yours or a Quad.

hv20user, how long did those renders take you before the upgrade? Or are you saying that the first was with V7 and the second with V8? If I understand correctly those are two renders on V8 but with different render settings, right?
