Vegas 8.1 and Vista 64

Ok I upgraded to a quad core 9400 2.66Ghz, 4GB ram and Vista 64 bit OS; then loaded 8.0c (32 bit) and vegas 8.1 (64bit). Neither allow to preview footage from explorer window. Can only see it after it is placed on the timeline. 8.1 does not allow viewing on external TV (output via firewire through ADVC110); 8.0c does. 8.1 crashes /hangs after a few commands , it seems to be unusable. I have posted to the Sony site, no answer as yet. Does anyone know how to make 8.1 work robustly on a 64 bit OS? Is there some special arrangement within preferences, that I've missed? (I'm not a novice, been using Vegas since version 4.0b). Is there any reason to stick with Vegas when Edius, Avid, Premier etc are all coming down in price?
thanks for any pointers,
will

I think the 64bit version has some bugs that needs to be corrected.

So its good that we still have the 32 bit edition.

So if the 64 gives you problem, use the 32 and wait for some updates. I think we need to be a little patient with the 64bit. Its hasnt been out long.

Hey Will, I am running Vista 64 on a Q9650 3.0 quadcore, and Vegas 8.1 works great. I had one problem like you described not previewing footage from explorer window, but I restarted vegas and it was ok. I am not sure what the problem is for you. I don't believe it is a universal thing if it works for me. I know a couple of third party plugins dont work at all with 8.1
