I know there is alot of talk this time of year about upgrades and new
releases. Especially, with NAB in April.

So, I have always passed along 100% accurate rumors over the years
about what is coming next.

So, here is a rumor that you can take to the bank.

Vegas 6.0d will be released, soon.

Can't say anything more.

Not surprising that there's 6.0d coming soon.

There are always newly-discovered bugs to fix.

But HVX support? I doubt it. Not in a free update.

But hey, if I'm wrong, in this case, I'd love to be.

Not one spur on the discussion of rumors (as I'd rather wait for facts myself), but I would just note that Vegas did include full support for the DVX100 in a free update oh so long ago (though nothing of the sort has really happened since Sony bought Vegas).

looking at past history .. V5 didn't have native HDV support .. 1st came 3rd party support from cineform for V5 ... V6 had native HDV support ... based on that ..
i would say V6 has 3rd party support for DVCporHD and i would NOT expect to see native support in V6d ... which then leaves V7 !!! well i'll put my $$$ on vegas supporting HVX before we see a RED camera hit the market...

Just more ridiculous rumor-mongering.
Those who know, don't say. Those who don't know....

And the point of the rumor (aka gossiping) is....?
It's easy to be 100% "right" when you don't really say anything.

I'm new here and trying to decide on the right camera for me (DVX100b or HVX) and I use V6c.

So after reading this, am I correct in stating that V6c will not capture media from the HVX?

Thank you.

Currently, Vegas (and no other NLE other than FCP) is currently functioning with HVX capture. You can use the Raylight convertor from DVFilm, and it works great. Some find it an extra step, others don't mind it at all. Just depends on your workflow.

Wow. You're DSE? I purchased your book on V6 and find it really insightful. The first day you saved me 45 minutes of headaches alone. Thanks for saving my sanity. :)

DSE,

I agree on your observation about workflow. If you're used to capturing SD tapes in real-time, then the MXF Raylight workaround will seem like "capturing" at warp speed.

I'd almost wager that the Raymaker application could convert files as quickly as you "batch" them from the P2 card. Not technically feasible with the way the app. works, but the extra step feels like nothing if you're used to capturing from tape or, God forbid, digitizing!

The workflow is easy - just import the MXF files into a drive with the Raymaker/Raylight application already installed, doubleclick and hit enter. Done.

I've had to be very specific with Vegas on project settings, but if you're entirely in a 720 or 1080 environment with no uprez-downrez expectation, the Raylight AVI (VfW) files seem to work flawlessly.

I'm trying to make a decision on a camera (100b or hvx) and justifying the $2000+ for the camera (above the 100b) and now for raylight, it's beginning to make my decision for me since I'm working with a small budget.

To my knowledge, Sonic Foundry didn't have to license anything to support the DVX; it just had to add pulldown removal (which it NAILED).

However, the shortest route to native HVX support requires licensing, as has been pointed out many times as a sticky point.

I wouldn't expect Sony not to want to recoup its costs, and I wouldn't begrudge paying for an upgrade to do so.

Panasonic and the NLE wars...

Panasonic and the NLE wars...

Rumors are Panasonic is being a real problem child with their DVCPRO HD codecs and P2 stuff and wants a $50,000 license fee from any NLE vendor who wants to support their products.

Not the brightest business decision - do they really need the 50 grand?.

Vegas 6d is out. For those that were hoping (based on this 100% factual rumor), there is not support for the HVX. Currently Raylight is the recommended workflow.

Not any NLE company, apparently (if rumors are correct) then some NLE companies got the codec at no cost.
I feel it's a bright business decision *if* Panasonic wants to support a particular breed of NLE.

There's not gonna be support for the HVX in a free update.

When 7.0 comes out and you have to pay for an upgrade, then yes, maybe.

Let's just remember that this thread was started on the basis of a rumor...
