Vegas 5 Right Click reverse - why?

Hey cats!

Am I missing something? Vegas 5 touts "right click reversal of media". What's the big deal. I have it, and all I can figure out is that it makes it easy to hear and see people walk and talk backwards. Is there a more useful purpose for this feature that I'm missing?

Are you asking why you would want to reverse a clip or are you asking why does vegas make it so easy to do? ;)

Re: Vegas 5 Right Click reverse - why?

Here's an example of why someone might want to reverse video. I shot a large amount of a three day event, as did one of the people on the centennial committee.

In the process of editing all the footage, I came up with an idea for a nice transition sequence. The camera panned to the right from a ground shot of the car show into a slow zoom in on a "Welcome To Buckeye" street sign. Behind the sign are several large grain elevators. With a lap dissolve, the zoom continued toward the huge towers as I also panned over toward the right and the American Flag filled the screen as it waved in the breeze. From the flag, another lap-dissolve reveals an overhead shot (taken by a committee member) from those towers of a shot showing the entire town. This also has a left to right pan and is where the title for the 'big parade' will be placed.

Almost all of the shots used had to be reversed for the action to flow like I wanted and the zooms to be in the correct direction. With clever editing, nobody was seen walking backwards and no vehicles are careening backwards down the street. The folks on the committee screened the sequence and "LOVED IT!"

The waving flag was going against the flow of the wind, and I wasn't about to tell them if they couldn't perceive the dif.

I am using Premiere 6.5 with some difficulty and frustration getting the reverse effect to render. When I upgrade the system for Vegas, it should be, 'one click and it's there'.

This is one reason for reversing video. I'm sure there are endless other reasons for the effect.
