Hey Vegas 5 looks like it kicks ass. I just got back from the SOCAL Vegas user group meeting (filmaker58 was there as well) that Sony threw at the Paris Hotel, and I must say Sony Software has a pretty good group of people behind the product.

They raffled off the Very first Boxed Vegas 5+DVD 2 in the world... and yours truely won :) heh heh.. dont know how they felt about Mr. Panasonic pusher winning, but they where very very cool.. everyone there was pretty nice.

Lucky you. They probably rigged it so you'd get it and write a great review--causing all of us to upgrade from V4 :-). What do you think are the stongest new features? The tracking and compositing improvements look nice, but they aren't anywhere near AE or Combustion-land.

Congratulations Jarred!  You lucky B@%$#^&*.  How many cards did you put in the box???  Seriously though, it was nice meeting you, (Jarred is very tall) and I hope you enjoy the software.

okay...I have to ask..... how do you think it stacks up to the latest version of Premiere pro.....or avid's express pro.

Yeah, congrats Jarred. I too, was at the Sony dinner. I was going to say 'hey', but I was kinda hating you for winning my copy of Vegas+DVD >:( j/k :)

IMHO, I think any version of Vegas beats Premier Pro and Avid hands down especially when it comes to an efficient workflow and ease of use. Sure, the latest version of some other NLEs have some nice convenience features that would allow Vegas to become more customizable to the way an individual edits, but regardless, in the hands of a good editor, it is the fastest NLE around.

Yes it was cool... dvxuser's infaltrating the Sony camp, heh heh heh.

So far Vegas 5 looks cool, havnt messed with it yet, but instantly discovered network rendering and being able to scrub-preview on monitor out AND the Computer preview window at the same time. Oh, and Magic Bullet comes built in too :)

Jarred - I think you had a post on the SONY Vegas site that said your V5 install was slowly deteriorating. What's the status on that?
