Word is on the street that Sony Vegas Pro 10 can play Canon 5D MOV files. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

TR

I'm 99% sure it can but if someone posts a small 5D MOV file on say rapidshare.com I would be more the happy to test it out using Vegas Movie Studio plat 10 HD.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Version 9 played them.

yeah, but it was a nightmare working with them. even on a maxed out PC without transcoding to something like Cineform format. anyways, to answer the question, yes 100% confirmed - footage from 5D mk ii, 7D and t2i (tested) is flawless. puts the mercury playback and their card requirements (premiere) to sleep, vegas rocks!!

oh yeah and im talking about realtime full hd preview, none of the 1/2 preview crap

LOL! Mercury is still faster (even the tests on the Vegas forums show you that). But yes, the realtime playback is very welcome addition to Vegas 10.

not with my experience, neither my gts 250 1GB nor the gtx 460 1GB on premier beats what vegas now does (for me). i put 2 clips on one video track in premiere, add some basic color correction, and bam 1/2 preview, no way it pulls off full HD on external monitor. vegas does without a sweat. so just a heads up for folks out there cutting DSLR footage, goodbye cineform, goodbye final cut, and now premiere is out. im back to vegas...

avid remains rock-solid.

I thought the Mercury spec called for a Quadro? I *know* the Avid spec does.

yes sir, thats one of the cards it supports. the list is expanding... avid i was just making a point, it does not pertain to the specs listed. but what im trying to say is with vegas your specs arent as beefy and do the job at times better than premiere which requires (mercury) only qualified cards and etc...

By default I don't think the MPE will make use of those two cards. Did you manualy hack those two cards to make use of the MPE?

yes, i did. i get the yellow bar in the timeline, but the playback is still horrible. by default i usually get red as soon as few basic FX are applied.

so i upgraded and it works great.

i was using prism and for some reason it left black bars on the side of my videos (www.youtube.com/beatsrus the recent videos are examples of that).

plus adding plugins on each audio clip was a nice feature. liking it so far.

Don't bail on Cineform too fast :)

From my experience I'm still getting a better editing "feel" with Cineform. The native DSLR .mov seems a bit "sticky" to work with. Also when editing with preview to second monitor on Vegas seems to want to kick in and out of the external preview when scrubbing around the .mov files. This is on a pretty new i7/12gig ram/gtech raid/intel machine. Cineform seems to play better for me.

Another thing - from what i understand Vegas 10 can now fully address the 10 bits in Cineform where before it was truncating everything to 8 bits.

Don't get me wrong - I'm loving the fact I can work with the raw DSLR files with full preview now. Great work from the Vegas team! I just wanted to chime in that Cineform is still bringing stuff to the party and that in my experience it edits a bit "smoother".

Wanted to add that I just upgraded to Vegas 10, and so far it has no problem with the raw .mov files from my new 60d. And I'm running a somewhat older machine: Quad Core Q6600, 3 Gigs Ram, XP Pro 32 bit, no raid.

I have noticed that playback gets a bit laggy when I shuttle at 10x or 20x speed. And I don't have Cineform as a basis to compare the feel/performance, but so far, Vegas 10 seems to be up to the task of editing these files.

you're doing something wrong. tested vegas 10 on an older quadcore/4gb ram from an EXTERNAL hard drive via USB, and had no problems. you should be flying with your system unless you're using an onboard video card or something. i have an i7, 12gb ram, programs on ssd, footage on exernal, nVidia gts 460, and full HD preview on external NO PROBLEMS.

This is great to hear. I just purchased a 7D yesterday and uploaded some test footage and Vegas 9 pro wouldnt even play the file it seems. It has no problemt playing m2ts footage at all.

Does anyone have that upgrade link that was less than $200 if purchased in Nov?

I can confirm that Vegas 10 is able to preview/edit my 60D footage on my i7 950, 6 gb ram, gtx285 whereas Vegas 9 could not.
