VCR or DVD to camera

I recently tried to copy a DVD and a VHS tape to the DVX100a and I think I may have screwed somrthing up inside. I recently went from computer to DV the same way and it worked fine, but when I tried to copy a rented DVD and some old VHS footage to DV, the picture came through the camera very distorted. I realize that the Macrovision would protect the DVD, but I thought the VHS would record. Did I screw up the VCR mode in my camera? I'd appreciate the help on this one.
 
Was the VHS a store-bought tape or something you recorded. Commercial VHS tapes incorporate Macrovision or some form of anti-copy encoding in them as well.

I don't see how you could have permenantly damaged the camera's circuits by attemting to break the law...:grin:
